About Us:

Kite Magnetics is an advanced materials company based in Notting Hill, Victoria. Founded in 2022, we are commercialising Aeroperm®, a lightweight nanocrystalline magnetic material developed at Monash University that enables electric motors and generators to be significantly more efficient, compact and lightweight.
Our mission is to reduce global emissions and energy waste by improving the performance of electric machines in transport, renewable energy and industrial applications. In 2025, we are building out a new pilot scale production facility in Melbourne to scale up our manufacturing capability and support our growing customer base.

As part of our engineering team, you will work alongside experienced materials, mechatronics and automation engineers on real world projects that push the boundaries of materials science and manufacturing. We are a collaborative and hands on team that values curiosity, transparency and impact, and we are proud to be building high tech jobs and capability here in Australia.

Position Overview:

As a Graduate Materials and Process Engineer at Kite Magnetics, you will play an important role in developing the next generation of magnetic materials for high-efficiency electric motors and generators. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers in both laboratory and small-scale manufacturing environments, contributing to real-world testing, materials characterisation, and process improvement activities.

This role offers early-career engineers the chance to apply their technical knowledge in a practical setting, develop new skills, and gain exposure to a growing Australian advanced manufacturing company. You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team working on projects with tangible environmental and industrial impact.

Reporting to: Principal Materials Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in manufacturing, preparing and testing advanced magnetic and structural materials, including amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys.
  2. Contribute to the design, execution and analysis of experiments to assess material properties, phase behaviour and system performance under thermal, chemical, mechanical and electromagnetic conditions.
  3. Conduct materials characterisation using techniques such as microscopy, magnetic and thermal analysis, spectroscopy or hardness testing.
  4. Support process development for materials synthesis, heat treatment and coating processes in lab and pilot-scale environments.
  5. Collaborate with materials, mechatronics and automation engineers to optimise processing workflows and troubleshoot technical challenges.
  6. Assist in data analysis, simulation or modelling tasks to inform material selection and system integration.
  7. Maintain detailed records of procedures and results in line with internal quality and traceability requirements.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated involvement in hands-on engineering activities outside of academic coursework, such as student teams (e.g. Formula SAE, Hyperloop, rocket or solar car projects), technical clubs, hobbyist projects, internships or part-time engineering roles.
  • Exposure to laboratory testing, materials characterisation techniques or manufacturing processes through university projects, industry experience or self-directed work.
  • Experience working in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams with evidence of initiative, problem solving and responsibility.

Personal Attributes:

  • Honest, curious, inclusive, collaborative, transparent, and responsible.
  • Reliable, organised, and detail-oriented.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a positive attitude and team-first approach.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary of $65,000 + Superannuation
  • Mentorship and career development opportunities.
  • Access to cutting-edge technology and innovation projects.
  • Collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Application Deadline:

Monday the 9th of June 2025

Commencement Date:

Flexible, on or after Tuesday the 1st of July 2025
