Senior Product Designer
Sydney (Hybrid) | Immediate Start | Contract or Permanent
We’re not just building products — we’re redefining how families stay connected.Spacetalk is on a mission to help families and seniors stay safe, independent, and in touch — wherever life takes them. Our wearables and software are trusted by thousands around the world, and we’re evolving fast: from hardware-led roots to a future powered by software, data, and design.
Right now, we’re rebuilding from the ground up. New leadership. New vision. And a whole new product experience. That’s where you come in.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead the design transformation of our mobile experience — someone who’s hands-on, strategic, and deeply user-centred. This isn’t just about polishing screens. It’s about rethinking how families engage with our ecosystem across app, watch, and beyond.
Reporting to our Lead Product Manager and working closely with our COO and Engineering teams, you’ll play a pivotal role in redesigning our mobile app and establishing a scalable design system across the Spacetalk ecosystem.
We’re open to how this role is structured — freelance contract, temp-to-perm, or permanent — but we need someone who’s ready to roll up their sleeves now. You’ll be a key partner in defining the product experience and guiding external agency output to ensure quality and cohesion.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll start by helping us re-architect the Spacetalk app — mapping features, simplifying flows, and elevating the interface so it feels intuitive, accessible, and delightful for both parents and kids. From there, you’ll build a reusable design system, shape the visual language, and extend those principles across the broader ecosystem.
We’ll rely on your experience to make bold, smart decisions quickly — especially in an environment where we don’t always have months of research or deep discovery. If you’ve worked in high-growth, product-led environments, you’ll know exactly what we mean.
Who You Are- You think strategically about design, connecting user needs to product and brand direction
- You’ve built or contributed to scalable design systems and component libraries
- You understand our users — parents, kids, families — and can design experiences that feel natural and intuitive
- You simplify complex systems and multi-step flows into elegant, accessible interfaces
- You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and making confident decisions with limited data
- You’ve designed across platforms — mobile-first is a must, with bonus points for web and hardware experience
- You’re collaborative, hands-on, and excited to shape the future of a product from the ground up
Bonus Points If You:
- Have experience designing for family, education, health, or location-based products
- Know how to create visual consistency across app, web, and device experiences
- Enjoy working with high-performing teams that move quickly and build with purpose
- 7+ years of experience in product, UI, or UX design (preferably consumer-facing or mobile-first)
- Strong portfolio showcasing scalable, user-centred design work
- Mastery of Figma or equivalent tools
- Excellent communication skills — you're confident presenting and justifying design decisions
- Comfortable in agile, fast-paced product environments
- Competitive salary or contractor day rate, depending on engagement
- Flexible hybrid work model – collaborate in our Sydney HQ and work remotely as needed
- Direct access to decision-makers – work closely with the COO, Product, and Tech leadership
- High-impact, high-visibility role in a design-led product transformation
- No legacy bloat — real greenfield opportunities to build from scratch
- Supportive, inclusive team culture with strong product thinking and momentum
- All the usual perks — modern tools, ambitious, impact-driven humans
