What you'll be doing

The Research Ethics Officer's primary role is to assist in the management of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and its sub-committees, and to facilitate communication with stakeholders regarding the requirements for, and outcomes of, research ethics applications.This position is one of a number of support positions within the Research Office.

All staff in the Research Office is expected to work flexibly to achieve urgent priorities as required, under the direction of the Executive Officer, Research Ethics (EO).Relationships

REO reports to the EO to ensure ethical compliance and safe conduct of research within the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.
REO works closely with the EO, Chair and members of the relevant HREC Committees to ensure that each runs smoothly and meets the needs of staff and students, and relevant statutory obligations.
REO is responsible for quality improvement of the ethical review and approval process in conjunction with EO and Associate Director, Research Operations.

REO is supported by the Research Ethics Administrative Assistant.

Completion of appropriate tertiary level qualifications (Certificate IV or above) in health or social sciences; or, substantial experience providing administrative support in a highly regulated environment, such as esearch ethics.
High level administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise a high volume workload and meet tight deadlines.
Proven high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including experience liaising with people from a variety of backgrounds and at all levels of an organisation.
Sound understanding of, or capacity to understand legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to research ethics; in particular, the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and Good Clinical Practice.
Demonstrated high level decision making, project management, analytical and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated experience in the preparation of agendas and taking minutes, as well as preparing high level reports and discussion papers to a variety of audiences.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience in using a wide variety of software applications and web-based programs; for example, Microsoft Office and TRIM.
