Catering Kitchen Manager

Melbourne | scoutjobs.com.au |
Make the move to a role that makes a difference. Join STREAT and use your passion for great food to lead the day-to-day operations of our catering business in Collingwood - providing fantastic catering alongside workplace training for marginalised young people.

About the role

You'll be responsible for:

Growing and nurturing people and relationships – you'll support your high-performance catering team to do their thing to the highest standards. You’ll facilitate the workplace training experience for STREAT’s young trainees within your team, supported by our dedicated youth programs team.
You'll build strong relationships with suppliers and customers and maintain open and cooperative relationships with all teams within STREAT.

Menu and product development – you'll work closely with the Executive Chef to develop and implement new products for the catering menu. This will include developing, testing, costing, and creating standardised recipes and documentation.
Kitchen operations and food production – coordinating the daily delivery and production of food from STREAT's catering and production kitchens, managing the systems and processes within the kitchen and maintaining stock and inventory, and keeping records of all products made.
There’s also a lot of prep and making a lot of sandwiches and salads!

Quality control – you’ll be responsible for ensuring all products leaving the kitchen are produced to your exacting standards, and for providing your team with the tools and skills they need to consistently perform to those standards.
Health and safety – ensuring that all your people operate within a supportive, safe and secure environment.
Supply chain ethics – working with the Executive Chef to ensure STREAT's produce is sourced, prepared, served and disposed of in a way which is in line with our values and minimises environmental harm and maximises its social impact.
Working in the kitchen – this role works out of our Collingwood headquarters, Mon-Fri, 5am-1pm.

What we offer:

Meaning and purpose – as a social enterprise, STREAT is a purpose-driven organisation and recognised as leading in social innovation. What you will do in your role will make a difference every day to the lives of marginalised young people.
11% superannuation and salary packaging benefits – as a registered charity, STREAT offers income tax benefits through salary sacrifice options (Including: General Expense Reimbursement, Meals & Entertainment Cards, Novated Leasing, and workplace expenses i.e., laptop).

Annual leave – ability to increase additional annual leave each year (up to 6 weeks).
Discounts – One free coffee every day, plus discounted meals, and coffee at the café.
Professional development – access to regular staff training, free quarterly professional development sessions, such as: Difficult Conversations, Mental Health First Aid, Gender and Sexual Diversity, Trauma-Informed Practice, and loads more. We invest in you and provide opportunities to up-skill in your specific areas of need/interest.

Personal development and support – Free access to professional counselling and wellbeing services via an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
Awesome team and culture – A supportive and friendly team that is always there to support you. STREAT has a deliberately inclusive, energetic and creative work culture.

About you

We’d love for you to have:

Lots of kitchen experience.
A genuine passion for catering and hospitality.
Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
A track record of managing COGs and wage targets.
Experience in establishing and maintaining systems and processes.
Good all-round knowledge of Melbourne’s food and coffee culture.
At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
Recognised commercial cookery training.
Experience in corporate catering preferred.
