The Opportunity:

We are currently looking a full time Technical Officer -histology to join our team at our Laboratory, located In Macquarie Park.

Our laboratory team work side by side with our Pathologists to deliver the right result, to the right patient at the right time. We have embraced a xylene free environment, lean principles, technology and digital platforms within our laboratory.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Embedding
 •  You'll be responsible for the high-quality, precise, and timely embedding of specimen tissue cassettes following our protocols.
 •  Keeping everything organised by maintaining the correct numerical order of cassettes during the embedding process.
 •  Making sure the number of tissue pieces embedded matches up with the documentation provided by our Cut-up Technicians in PowerPath AMP.
 •  Your keen eye for detail will be crucial in documenting any discrepancies in embedding, ensuring accuracy every step of the way.

Microtomy:

 •  Provide high quality, accurate and timely cutting, trimming and sectioning of blocks with accurate label placement, in accordance with protocols.

Allocation
 •  You will be applying rigorous internal quality control measures in accordance with allocation protocols.

Digital
 •  You will have experience with digital platforms to ensure workflow processes are followed.

Slide and block filing
 •  You will provide accurate and timely daily filing of slides and blocks.

What you will need to succeed:

 •  Have a degree in science, applied science or medical technology or at least 2 years relevant experience in Histology.
 •  An associate qualification conferred by the Australian Institute of Medical Technologists prior to 1 January 1974.
 •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 •  Ability to appropriately exercise initiative whilst maintaining interpersonal sensitivity.
 •  Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks effectively, with the ability to delegate appropriately.
 •  Excellent time management and attention to detail.
 •  Practical knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity and WHS principles.
 •  Have an extensive understanding of the laboratory operations and understand the impact of laboratory functions on other areas of the practice.
