Biodiversity (WINGIL) Officer

Role Responsibilities

Coordinate the implementation of koala management actions across the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape

Lead the implementation of Manna Gum conservation actions across the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, with particular focus on GMTOAC and WMAC owned properties.
Lead the implementation of biodiversity conservation actions as identified in relevant reports and management plans, such as the IPA Plan of Management and the Botanical Management Plan
Support the development of terrestrial biodiversity monitoring across the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, including undertaking baseline surveys where required.
Support and mentor GMTOAC staff to build knowledge and capacity in biodiversity conservation and monitoring techniques, including organising relevant training and facilitating on-country learning opportunities
Work collaboratively with GMTOAC staff to ensure policies and procedures for biodiversity monitoring are in place and align with the Corporations strategic direction, including World Heritage management requirements
Support the development of investment bids to fund future biodiversity management
Work Health and Safety responsibilities as identified in policies and procedures
Equity and diversity responsibilities as identified in policies and procedures

All other duties as required

Key Selection Criteria

The essential experience, knowledge, skills, competencies and qualifications a person requires to successfully fulfil the responsibilities of the position are:

Relevant qualifications and/or at least three years demonstrated professional competence in environmental science or natural resource management

Experience in coordinating and implementing biodiversity conservation projects

Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with a range of community-based organisations, government and industry partners
Strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise work, manage multiple tasks and competing priorities, and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse range of people and develop close working relationships with project delivery partners

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently when required but also to work cooperatively with others as part of a team

An understanding of the Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, its operations and activities

An awareness and understanding of historic and current issues affecting Gunditjmara people and country; as well as the broader Australian Aboriginal and Torres Islander community and their relationships with the broader Australian society in order to communicate effectively and sensitively with Gunditjmara people and other stakeholders.
