Our client is an Australian biotechnology company developing novel therapies for chronic inflammatory & infectious diseases. Now is an exciting time to join their company as they progress the clinical development of their lead candidate. They are currently conducting a Phase I clinical trial and are developing new clinical assays to determine the safety and clinical efficacy of the therapy.

The Opportunity

As their new translational scientist, you will design and develop assays required for the next stages of clinical development. Reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and working as part of the R&D team, your role will encompass:

  • Designing and developing assays required for clinical studies and drug manufacturing development, including basic research, troubleshooting, and solving technical problems.
  • Assisting with tech transfer to third party vendors and assisting them in further assay development, validation, and data analysis.
  • Designing and developing preclinical assays for IND-enabling studies.
  • Conducting experiments using ELISA, cell-based assays, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, Colorimetric Assays, and other techniques.
  • Isolating PBMCs from clinical blood samples and evaluating them in cell-based assays (e.g. ELISpot).
  • Meticulously detailing your research and its findings using an electronic lab book, with up-to-date records.
  • Contribute to the selection process of key equipment purchases, sourcing quotes, ordering reagents and consumables, and establishing and maintaining an equipment and maintenance register within the lab.
  • Contribute to the generation and review of protocols, reports, SOPs and other documentation for the company QMS.
  • Keep track of clinical sample inventories and shipping logs and liaise with the clinical sites and CROs. The Requirements
  • Postgraduate qualification in life sciences discipline, preferably a PhD.
  • Strong experience in translational research, ideally within industry, relating to vaccinology, infectious diseases, immunology, inflammation or protein production.
  • Deep level of knowledge and hands-on experience with immunoassays and/or cell-based assays.
  • High-level analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to articulate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent problem-solving and planning skills and the ability to work autonomously and independently. The Offer
This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to startup incubators and contribute to translational research, while working under and receiving mentorship from a highly experienced CSO. The initial appointment term is 12 months, and the salary and title will reflect the experience of the successful applicant.
