About the Role:
As a Chef, you'll work alongside the Head Chef and Unit Manager to ensure the efficient, high-quality, and profitable operation of the kitchen. You’ll be responsible for food preparation, kitchen operations, staff support, and maintaining our strong reputation for delivering delicious meals and great customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure daily kitchen setup and pack-down procedures are completed as per kitchen manualsPrepare and cook meals with a strong focus on consistency, quality, and presentation
Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and seasonal updates
Maintain strict portion control to reduce waste and manage food costs
Manage food ordering, rotation, and stock control to ensure freshness and availability
Maintain kitchen cleanliness, hygiene, and equipment according to food safety standards
Enforce compliance with WHS regulations and company checklists
Communicate equipment repair needs or kitchen issues to the Head Chef
Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes including meats, poultry, vegetables, sauces, and sides
Use a variety of cooking techniques such as roasting, boiling, frying, and grilling
Follow presentation standards and serve meals within time expectations
Operate kitchen machinery and tools safely and efficiently
Assist in onboarding and training kitchen staff
Supervise staff during Head Chef’s absence, managing rosters and breaks
Foster a positive and productive team environment
Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service
Respond professionally to customer feedback to support a high standard of satisfaction
Help create a welcoming, consistent dining experience that encourages return business
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chef or Cook in a commercial kitchenCertificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent qualification/experience)
Proven ability to work across multiple kitchen stations with speed and precision
Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations
Ability to manage time effectively in a high-volume environment
Experience training or mentoring junior kitchen staff
Excellent communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented attitude
Experience with Tex-Mex or international cuisine
Knowledge of kitchen KPIs and cost control practices
Ability to contribute to creative menu design
