Mason Bros Vegetable Farms, located in Werribee South (West of Melbourne), is an industry leader in growing and supplying the freshest cut vegetables Australia wide.
To continue meeting our customers’ needs and to maintain the highest standard of vegetable produce and operational efficiency, Mason Bros requires an experienced Nursery Hand to join our team. This position is vital in assisting with running the day-to-day nursery and farming operations.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Preparing soil mixes, sowing, planting, fertigation, irrigation of vegetable seedlings and plants manually and overseeing automatic watering systems
- Cultivation of vegetable seedlings and farm vegetable crops.
- Application of pesticides to control pests, diseases, weeds, and address plant nutritional or environmental concerns
- Stacking, racking, seedling trays and movement of racks and equipment utilising forklift and lifting aids.
- Liaising with and assisting farm planting and harvesting operations
- Safe operation of nursery and farm equipment and machinery including tractors, planters, harvesters, forklifts
- Apply Occupational health & Safety work practices adjusting to environmental conditions to ensure a safe working environment
- Quality control, undertake regular cleaning programs in accordance with hygiene and food safety standards.
- Assist with planning and monitoring daily, weekly and monthly nursery and farm activities.
- Contribute to meeting customer specifications and delivery schedules
- Daily manual and electronic data inputs including monitoring, measuring and recording of nursery and farm operation activities
- General manual handling duties as required.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
- Qualification such as Certificate IV in Production Horticulture, Production Nursery or equivalent
- Sufficient practical work experience in the Horticulture sector
- Current valid Victorian driver’s license and forklift license (essential)
- Completed farm chemical users’ course or equivalent
- Ability to maintain efficiency and high performance and able to work flexible hours during peak periods
- Experienced in operating nursery and farm machinery
- Desire to work outdoors and in a farming environment
- Competent with mobile digital devices i.e., iPhone, iPad and computer entries
