Accountant
Your Opportunity:
This is your chance to step into a pivotal finance role within a fast-growing, specialist insurance brokerage. As the business expands, they are bringing their accounting function in-house - giving you the unique opportunity to own the finance operations from end to end.
You'll work in a close-knit, people-first environment where relationships matter, and your voice is heard. With hybrid flexibility (WFH Mondays and Fridays), approachable leadership, and a genuinely supportive culture, you'll be trusted to manage everything from payroll to trust accounting, reporting, and process improvement.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - ideal for someone who thrives in a self-sufficient environment and enjoys having true ownership over their work. You'll partner with an external tax advisor and senior leaders, contribute to decision-making, and gain exposure to the operational side of the business.
If you're looking to step out of a siloed role and into one where you can be valued, and make an impact - this is the perfect opportunity.
What You'll Do:
This is a hands-on accounting role where you'll take full ownership of the day-to-day finance function within a fast-growing business. You'll work closely with leadership and an external accountant, ensuring financial operations run smoothly and compliantly.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring accurate, compliant reconciliation of trust funds and insurance transactions
- Overseeing trust and broker working accounts, handling 150 transactions per week
- Reconciling Winbeat transactions and allocate incoming premiums
- Remit commissions, fees, and premiums to brokers and insurers in line with credit terms
- Completing month-end close and prepare internal financial reporting
- Monitoring debtors and follow up outstanding payments
- Managing fortnightly payroll for 18 staff using Employment Hero
- Processing and reconcile superannuation contributions through an automated system
- Supporting quarterly and annual returns for the external accountant (accrual basis)
- Assisting with financial budgeting and forecasting
- Reviewing and track ongoing business expenses
- Managing staff reimbursements and expense claims
Who You Are:
- You're a hands-on accountant with experience managing end-to-end finance functions, ideally in a small business or service-based environment.
- You have high attention to detail, especially when working with trust accounts, reconciliations, and insurance-specific transactions.
- You're proactive, reliable, and self-sufficient - able to own your responsibilities with confidence in a standalone role.
- You're comfortable using systems like MYOB and Employment Hero, and can quickly get up to speed with industry platforms like Winbeat.
- You have strong organisational skills and can manage multiple deadlines across payroll, reporting, and compliance.
- You're trustworthy and discreet, understanding the importance of confidentiality and accuracy when handling sensitive financial information.
- You value a collaborative, people-first culture and are motivated by making a direct impact in a growing business.
