Sports and Recreation Officer
You will report directly to the General Manager of Kiteboarding Australia, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic direction and goals.
Working closely with affiliated clubs, kite schools, local councils, and community organisations, you will promote safe, inclusive, and accessible opportunities for Australians to get involved in kiteboarding. A strong emphasis will be placed on enhancing community engagement, supporting facility access, and delivering high-quality recreational experiences that align with the organisation’s strategic goals.
In addition to program and event delivery, you will lead the development and growth of Kiteboarding Australia’s national membership base. This includes driving recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies in collaboration with member organisations.Through proactive outreach, relationship management, and member-focused initiatives, you will play a vital role in strengthening the kiteboarding community and increasing the value of membership nationally.
Key job responsibilities include:
Program and Event Coordination
Plan, coordinate, and deliver kiteboarding programs and events that cater to a wide range of skill levels — from beginners to experienced ridersWork with clubs, schools, councils, and community partners to ensure smooth program delivery and positive participant experiences
Support the implementation of national recreational and athlete development pathways
Working closely with the Event Directors, assisting in the planning and delivery of national kiteboarding events across different disciplines; Wave, Freestyle, Big Air, Foil and Wing Foiling.Managing and working with external parties, including local councils and contractors, to deliver events.
Recruitment and rostering of volunteers, Officials and other event personnel with the support of the Event Director.
Update relevant policies as necessary in accordance with events and sport administration.
Access and Participation·
Help improve access to kiteboarding facilities and locations through collaboration with local councils and affiliated groups.·Promote safe and inclusive practices in all programs and events.
Champion the growth of participation across youth, schools, and underrepresented groups.
Community Engagement
Strengthen partnerships with affiliated kiteboarding clubs, schools, and instructors.Build relationships with local communities to support outreach programs and recreational initiatives.
Deliver high-quality recreational experiences that reflect Kiteboarding Australia’s values and vision.
Membership Development
Lead strategies to recruit, retain, and engage members nationally.Promote the benefits of Kiteboarding Australia membership through outreach campaigns and program integration.
Work with clubs and schools to grow the membership base and increase overall community connection.
Monitor member engagement and contribute to improving member services and communications.
Develop and implement new membership recruitment/retention and engagement programs such as webinars and clinics to increase community engagement.
Communications and Marketing
Develop strategy, manage and grow KA social media & e-newsletter engagement and platform in conjunction with the Marketing Committee and GM.Assist with website redesign. Review all website content, assist with vendor research, RFP and project schedules.
Respond to email inquiries and facilitate information sharing to appropriate stakeholders.
Manage mailing lists and use marketing software to develop effective marketing campaigns that target relevant audiences.
Provide customer services to KA members, affiliates and Program Participants for annual/program retention.
Collaborate on marketing ideas and opportunities with the KA Team; assist with partnership proposals as required by the GM.
Build and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders to form partnerships to increase membership and event value.
Assist in creation and execution of all key promotional material (print, digital and video) campaigns including annual report, official communications to members and program participants and its events in conjunction with the GM and other staff members as requested.
Essential Criteria:
Tertiary qualifications in Sport & Recreation, Sport Management or similar.Experience in sports administration, event management and membership/volunteer management.
Well-developed written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Experience using Customer Relations Management systems such as Mailchimp; WordPress and Canva or Indesign.
Effective time management and organisational skills.
A positive “can-do” attitude with the ability to be solutions focused.
Well-developed computer skills and information technology literacy, including social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team with minimal supervision.
Current Working with Children Check (or ability to apply prior to commencement in role).
Open class C driver’s licence.
General working hours are 8:30am-5pm.
The nature of the position will require out-of-hours, occasional weekend and occasional Public Holiday work.
This position requires a successful applicant to provide a suitable location to perform their work.
Job Type: Full-timePay: $65,000.00 – $76,000.00 per year
