Our client, Fairbridge Western Australia Inc, is seeking an Outdoor Recreation - Activity Instructor.
Location - Pemberton
They are seeking a passionate and suitable candidate to join our busy team to facilitate outdoor learning experiences and adventure-based recreation activities at Pemberton.
Fairbridge WA operates camp schools throughout Western Australia. Their camp schools offer various activities which utilise the beautiful country and surrounds that they have on offer as well as our artificial roping towers. Their programs deliver hands on learning experiences to a variety of age and ability levels on the water, land or up high amongst the trees.
They have a large range of programs which offer groups the opportunity to partake in activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, bushwalking, biking, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes, team building and more.
Applicants must have prior experience working in the outdoor recreation/education industry and have experience delivering school camp programs, tours, or classes to groups, in particular school age groups.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Facilitating activity programs in accordance with Fairbridge WA policies and procedures
Preparing for individual and group participation in outdoor recreation experiencesDemonstrating and teaching basic techniques and skills used in specific activities
Support and facilitate groups through adventure-based learning
Challenge groups to work together to achieve desired outcomes
Educate students to apply skills learnt on program to their everyday life
Encourage strong connections with our natural environment
Supervise and maintain control of individuals and groups involved in outdoor recreation activities/expeditions
Providing advice on safety measures and risk minimisation strategies for outdoor adventure activities
Respond to emergencies during outdoor recreation activities by providing first aid assistance and organising means of evacuation
Assisting in equipment maintenance and care
Key selection criteria: Appropriate Outdoor Recreation experience.
Good level of fitnessGood planning and organisational skills

Able to motivate and supervise other people.
Community Surf Rescue, Bonze Medallion, or other water rescue qualification [willing to obtain]
Western Australia Working with Children Check [Mandatory]
National Police Clearance [Mandatory]
Provide First Aid and current CPR [Mandatory]
WA Driver’s licence and a willingness to travel [Mandatory]
Flexible working hours
A willingness to stay overnight for the duration of camps
Certificate III/IV in Outdoor Recreation/Leadership as a minimum (or equivalent)
Activity Specific Qualifications (Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Canoeing, Abseiling, High Ropes, Sailing or Snorkelling) [one or more of]
Community Surf Rescue, Bonze Medallion, or other water rescue qualification [mandatory]
Wilderness/Remote First Aid [desirable]
Experience with outdoor risk management, knowledge of equipment maintenance and safety checks for PPE, Understanding of OH&S requirements in the workplace
Experience and passion for expeditions and overnight camp journeys [desirable]
Experience in staff management and group training
Experience in programming and administration
Strong work ethic and desire to build and create new activity challenges
You will be required to mentor and assist in training of junior or trainee guides and instructors through relevant skill development
Annual Salary: $65,000 – $75,000
