Business Development Manager, Energy Optimization Services

Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. One of the cornerstones of this mission is Megapack - Tesla’s utility-scale energy storage product. Megapack is much more dynamic than traditional fossil-fuelled power plants and requires an entirely new approach to operations and dispatch.
To manage these assets, Tesla has developed a suite of in-house software, including its market-leading Autobidder platform for wholesale markets. The Business Development Manager will drive the deployment of Tesla’s industrial energy software platforms across the Americas.
It will require deep engagement with external and internal teams – leading education, sales, contracting with customers, and helping to shape the products, offerings, long term commercial structures and strategy with engineering, sales, and product teams.
The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the energy industry, including wholesale market participation and energy storage dispatch, financial and commercial experience, technical sales, fluency in optimization software, and strong contracting and communications skills.

Prior experience with energy asset optimization and sales in wholesale markets is strongly preferred. Please note, this position is open to applicants based in both Sydney & Melbourne. Educate customers on the benefits of Tesla’s energy optimization software and servicesLeverage Sales team relationships with independent power producers, developers, and utilities to build a pipeline of short, medium, and long-term software opportunities spanning multiple countriesAchieve sales targets and lead negotiation and contracting of energy optimization services agreements, which will include complex financial structures such as revenue guaranteesCollaborate with internal stakeholders from various departments to define scope, terms, and pricing (including complex financial structures) for Tesla’s energy optimization services in a way that meets customers’ needs while protecting Tesla’s interestsFinding ways to continuously optimize Tesla’s long term financial agreements and obligations through market engagement Contribute to the strategy for and preparation of tender responses, in collaboration with Tesla’s Megapack Sales teamMaintain quality pipeline data and provide reporting to management as needed 4-5 years minimum work experience in the electricity industry; experience in sales or business development (customer-facing)Strong knowledge of battery systems and/or electricity markets; experience with battery optimization software and/or services is strongly preferredHands-on contract negotiation and execution experience, particularly for complex financial offersStrong analytical / quantitative skills regarding complex price models, storage/renewable project economics, techno-economic optimizations, quantitative risk analysis, highly confident use of Excel and ability to understand fundamentals of project finance modelsAbility to effectively communicate technical concepts and analytical results to clients and internal stakeholders Fluency in English, both written and spokenExperience managing cross-functional projects in fast paced, dynamic settingsDeep passion for accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy
