AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. It is dedicated to managing the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world.GCNA is responsible for building and designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow efficiently between Data Centers and customers.
The ideal candidate will share our excitement about cloud computing and will be passionate about delivering high quality services. You will have good knowledge of distributed systems with design and implementation experience, as well as the ability to lead and mentor other engineers.You will be customer centric and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that requires excellent technical and communication skills. You will join a tenured team of Network Development Engineers and Systems Development Engineers. This is an opportunity to build a new service utilizing AWS technologies.

Key job responsibilities
As a Software Development Engineer, you will oversee the complete software development lifecycle— defining, prioritizing, designing, building, and testing new features.- Understand what it takes to grow and operate to be ahead of customer demand at our scale.
- Design, implement, test, deploy, operate and maintain best in class innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost and security;
- Write high quality distributed system software;
- Enjoy seeing the impact of your work has on customers by building metrics and maintaining metrics platforms;
- Help shape the automation future in Networking Backbone and Internet Capacity organization;
- Use and develop tools, services and processes that collect and rationalize data from different sources;
- Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues with effective escalation to senior-level engineering teams;
- Create, contribute and review documentation, process and procedures;
- Be involved in the formulation of structured training;
- Work in an Agile development environment;
- Learn from others and help grow those in your team to achieve their best;
Collaborate with the wider teams to automate and invent new ways of operating Amazon's Next-Generation Network

Within AWS Networking, the GCNA capacity engineering team is responsible for connecting Amazon to the global Internet and delivering our global backbone connectivity. With connections to thousands of unique external networks in hundreds of locations across the world together with multiple backbone connections between locations, our mission is to deliver a connectivity experience that sets the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost, making Amazon the clear choice for our customers.Our team provides high-performing internet and backbone connectivity for a wide range of use cases, such as retail (amazon.com), video streaming (Prime Video), content delivery (CloudFront), DNS (Route53), AWS services (i.e. EC2/S3), consumer devices (i.e. as FireTV/Kindle/Echo), and more.

- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
