Director of Research & Development

As the R&D Director, you will drive product innovation, ensure product quality, and keep us at the forefront of the natural products market.

• R&D Activities: Designing, coordinating, supervising and monitoring all R&D activities of the group, including the currently registered Experimental Trials. Specific tasks include implementing, assessing and improving existing IP regarding designing and producing bee feed;
• Product Development: Lead the creation of new Bee-Fuse honey-based products for edible, medicinal, and cosmetic applications.
• Innovation Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive research and development strategy and roadmap for the Bee-Fuse technology, including setting research priorities and targets aligned with commercial objectives, investigating novel applications of Bee-Fuse technology across different product categories
• Strategy Research Planning: Lead strategic decision-making on research project selection and resource allocation, including conducting cost-benefit analyses of R&D initiatives
• Research and Development of Formulations: Enhance existing formulations based on market trends, consumer feedback, and scientific advancements.
• Research: Investigate honey properties and bioactive ingredients to explore new product opportunities.
• Analysis: Assess the chemical composition, nutritional value, and therapeutic benefits of Bee-Fused honey varieties for product development.
• Cost Benefit: Undertaking cost-benefit analysis and ROI assessment of research activities.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure all products meet high-quality standards and regulatory compliance.
• Problem Solving: Analyse and address product-related issues to recommend solutions.
• Market Analysis: Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to ensure product relevance.
• Collaboration: Coordinating the activities of all parties involved in the current Bee Feed R&D trial, (including Hampson Honey) with regards to meeting production schedules and delivery of product for testing and further research requirements.
• Advisory and Leadership: Provide expert technical advice to the executive team on R&D investment decisions and technological capabilities
• Research Collaborations: Partner with external labs and research institutions for advanced product testing.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain research records and report on product development progress. Develop detailed technical documentation of research findings and recommendations for commercialisation.
• Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies.

• At least a bachelor’s qualification plus 2 years of relevant work experience in R&D, preferably in food or natural products industries, or 5 years of R&D experience, preferably in food or natural products industries, in lieu of qualification
• Expertise in registering global patents for food technology products.
• Deep knowledge of honey production and its uses across sectors like food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
• Strong knowledge of product formulation and development.
• Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with food or natural product testing in laboratory environments.
• Excellent project management and organizational abilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams and work to deadlines.

• Develop a new range of Bee-Fuse honey-based products.
• Build collaborations with tertiary institutions for honey product research and testing.
• Manage relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders professionally.
