Our client, Agro Foods, is a leader in processing grains, legumes, and pulses, primarily sourced from Australian farms. Located in Truganina, Victoria, the company is dedicated to delivering top-quality products while supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

As part of their commitment to excellence, they are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their team on a full-time basis to help boost the efficiency of the company’s processing operations.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for conceptualise, design, and test various products and machines to ensure they are functional, safe, and cost-effective. This role focuses on improving the reliability and performance of the company’s processing operations by using innovative engineering principles and best practices.

The annual salary for this position is $80,000 plus superannuation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance mechanical equipment and systems for processing grains, pulses, and legumes.
  • Implement and oversee preventative maintenance programs to reduce equipment failures and minimise production downtime.
  • Analyse and optimise grain processing systems to maximise throughput, improve energy efficiency and enhance product quality.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process enhancements, providing innovative mechanical solutions to boost productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct research and development to refine processing methods focusing on quality, safety, and sustainability.
  • Supervise the installing, commissioning, and maintaining of mechanical systems and equipment within the processing facility.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Design, optimise, and manage packaging systems for pulses, ensuring efficiency, product safety, and sustainability throughout the packaging process.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, to enhance overall processing operations, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance of mechanical systems with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to prevent workplace hazards and maintain a secure working environment.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues, perform root cause analysis, and apply corrective actions to minimise downtime and sustain operational efficiency.
  • Develop and execute maintenance schedules and predictive maintenance programs, utilising scheduling software to enhance machinery reliability and lifespan.
  • Assess and recommend new technologies or equipment upgrades to improve system performance and efficiency.
  • Lead mechanical projects, including equipment upgrades and installations, while managing project estimates, budgets, and timelines.
  • Evaluate suppliers and implement cost-reduction strategies through energy-efficient systems and optimised maintenance processes.

Qualification and Experience Required:

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Should have at least 3 years of equivalent full-time experience in a similar position.
  • Should be proficient in using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or SolidWorks) for drafting and designing mechanical systems.
  • Must have strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, and piping systems.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to analyse complex engineering challenges.
  • Possess strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Should have an understanding of industry-specific safety, quality, and hygiene standards.
  • Must have proven experience in using SAP modules related to plant operations and maintenance (SAP PM, MM).
  • Should be knowledgeable in steel fabrication and maintenance techniques such as welding and inspections (NDT & DT), ensuring compliance with relevant international standards like ASME, API, etc.
  • Preferred to be knowledgeable about ISO Quality Management Systems.
