About HealthMatch

HealthMatch is on a mission to advance medicine by connecting patients with clinical trials. 80% of clinical trials are delayed because they can’t find enough suitable participants. We’re closing that gap with user-friendly technology and patient engagement to match patients with new treatments.

We operate at the intersection of healthcare and technology, driving better outcomes for patients. With over 2 million patients in our database and numerous opportunities across the US clinical trials industry, we’re on a rapid growth trajectory.

About the role

HealthMatch works with clinical trial sponsors and trial sites to provide a best-in-class patient recruitment solution. The Medical Director plays a pivotal role at HealthMatch, bridging clinical science, patient experience, and recruitment performance.

You’ll work cross-functionally with internal teams and directly with customers to forecast trial performance, interpret protocols, design screening processes, optimize recruitment strategies, and bring clinical insights into product development and operations.

This is a highly collaborative role with a diverse range of responsibilities — ideal for a self-driven medical expert passionate about accelerating medical research and interested in tech.

What you’ll be doing
  • Creating Screening Questionnaires for Encoding Clinical Trials: You will be responsible for interpreting clinical trial protocols to encode eligibility criteria for patient screening, and communicate key protocol elements that may impact recruitment to the operations team.
  • Optimising Trial Recruitment: You will use your medical expertise and analytical skills to enhance recruitment through research, data analysis, and experimentation. You’ll refine screening criteria and questions by combining clinical insight with a deep understanding of patient behavior and data.
  • Working with Sites & Patients: As a medical expert your North Star will be randomising patients effectively and efficiently. You’ll collaborate directly with trial sites and patients to support HealthMatch’s site engagement and tech-enabled patient engagement.
  • Product Development & Feedback: As a medical subject matter expert, you’ll collaborate with internal teams to apply clinical insights that improve our core products and inform the design of new solutions

Innovation & Framework Development: In a dynamic, learning-driven environment, you’ll shape and refine our trial encoding and recruitment strategies by building on prior insights, challenging assumptions, and testing new approaches. Your role is key in consolidating data, evolving best practices, and creating adaptable frameworks that support continuous improvement.

Requirements

We’re excited to have you because you have:

  • Medical Knowledge & Practical Application: You hold a medical degree (MD, MBBS, or equivalent) and have clinical experience across a range of therapeutic areas, with a strong understanding of standards of care and patient experiences. You are eager to apply this knowledge to improve outcomes for patients, sponsors, and sites at HealthMatch, and are committed to learning about different healthcare systems — such as the U.S. — and how contextual factors like access and treatment pathways impact trial recruitment.
  • Commitment: We expect a lot of our people and are a purpose-led organization trying to accelerate clinical research. Everyone that joins the team is expected to go over and above to deliver great outcomes for customers and your teammates. We offer equity and pay well in exchange for high efforts.
  • DIY Attitude: We’re a startup, and you’ve got to get your hands dirty. This means doing some boring admin tasks to help customers. E.g., you might have to manually enter 300 items into an internal system, figure out how to hack an automated solution with Typeform and Zapier, build your own dashboard in our BI tool, or learn SQL to pull your own data instead of waiting for help.
  • Drive and Hunger: This job is critical for driving our performance and ensuring the trials we are recruiting to deliver a great result for study sponsors. You have high levels of accountability, self-motivation, and attention to detail.
  • Excitement about Data & Technology: A lot of this role requires an ability to leverage the data we have to forecast, deliver, and optimise. When we don’t have the data, we need to find ways to collect it. You don’t need to have SQL or coding skills on Day 1, but you do need an excitement for gaining this skills swiftly.
  • Collaboration & Timezone Flexibility: Ability to work cross-functionally and across time zones. Our HQ is in Sydney, but half of our team and most of our customers are US-based. This means meetings early in the morning to overlap with your team members.
