POSITION DESCRIPTION:At Water Vista Café, we require a dedicated Chef to support the kitchen team in delivering high-quality food preparation and service across à la carte dining, events, and functions. Working under the supervision of the head chef, this role focuses on maintaining consistency, efficiency, and compliance within a fast-paced hospitality environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Preparing and cooking a range of contemporary Australian and international dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and quality standards.
- Assisting in the preparation and development of menu items, daily specials and plated dishes under the direction of the Head Chef.
- Performing all stages of food preparation and cookery, including ingredient preparation, seasoning, cooking and presentation of meals for dine-in customers and functions.
- Monitoring the quality, consistency and presentation of dishes during busy lunch, dinner and event service periods.
- Ensuring meals are prepared in accordance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Coordinating food preparation activities within designated kitchen sections to support efficient kitchen operations and timely service.
- Assisting with stock control, stock rotation and storage of food supplies and perishable ingredients.
- Minimising food wastage through proper handling, preparation and storage procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, preparation areas and food storage facilities.
- Working collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to maintain high standards of food quality and customer service.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role within hospitality environments
- Tertiary qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related field (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, equipment, and kitchen operations
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
