Mount Lofty Estate boosts two luxury accommodation establishments; Mount Lofty House and luxury Sequoia Lodge. We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Sommelier to manage one of the most extensive cellars and wine list in the state and creating wonderful guest experiences.

Hardy's Verandah Restaurant has one of the most exciting cellars situated in a 175-year-old sandstone cellar. With over 1300 labels, rated 3 Glasses and Best Wine list in South Australia by Gourmet Traveller Winelist of the Year Awards, and located within the picturesque Adelaide Hills, close to more than 60 wineries.

This is a Head sommelier's dream! Run and further develop the wine program where you will train, developed and challenge the team and be able to take your wine knowledge to the next level.

The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and driven Sommelier to join our Hardy’s Verandah team. You are an essential member of our team and with your expertise can support, train and develop junior members. We serve a global menu and are not limited to just one cuisine so you will have the ability to create many amazing wine and food pairings every season.

A key part of your role will be engaging with unique wine experiences where you can impart your knowledge on our guests and excite them! You will be able to make connections with guests from all over the globe and push your boundaries by creating these on-of-a-kind experiences.

The restaurant offers the ultimate fine dining experience with a seasonally changing, ‘Valley to Verandah’ degustation experience showcasing fresh produce, grown and foraged onsite paired with the best local, national and international wines.

Being so fluid, this creates a welcomed environment where you have the freedom to work with our Head Chef to create amazing wine and food pairings each season.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Developing and maintaining our extensive wine list
Meeting and developing relationships with our key suppliers
Providing the ultimate guest experience
Recommending and upselling wines
Stock control/KPIs are met and maintained
Create food and wine pairings.
Lead and train the sommelier team

Have an acute attention to detail, focused on perfection in every respect

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

A service & customer centric attitude
At least 2 years experience as a Sommelier
Reliability and have the availability to work afternoon and dinner shifts across a 7 day roster
Passion and enthusiasm about wines and confidence to discuss them with guests
Understand stocks and stock control
Have excellent communication skills
Passionate, friendly and personable
