The Role…
Job Title: Instrument Technician
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent.
Location: Perth, Western Australia 6000

Salary: $85,000

Role overview…

The role requires the technician(s) to integrate, install, calibrate, repair, and service/maintain a range of measurement instrumentation employed in the environmental and laboratory testing fields. On-the-job training will be provided for applicants based on their level of experience.

Experienced technicians should have a reasonable degree of knowledge in some of these areas and be keen to learn, working under the guidance of senior technical staff, employing company-developed certified processes.

Duties and responsibilities…
  1. Installation, Modification, Maintenance, and Repair of Complex Electronic Instruments and Control Systems;
  2. Examining and Testing Machines, Equipment, Instruments, and Control Systems to Diagnose Faults;
  3. Adjusting, Repairing, and Replacing Worn and Defective Parts and Wiring, and Maintaining Machines, Equipment, and Instruments;
  4. Reassembling, Test Operating, and Adjusting Equipment;
  5. Advising Users on Correct Operating Procedures to Prevent Malfunctions;
  6. Receiving Messages by Interpreting Code and Converting to Plain Language, and
  7. Monitoring Radio Traffic, and Transmitting and Receiving Voice Messages;
  8. Installing Electronic Instruments and Control Systems; and
  9. Applying Knowledge of Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic Principles in Commissioning and Maintaining Control Systems.
What we’re looking for…
  • You have a relevant qualification in electronics and communications.
  • You have a high level of technical expertise and logical problem-solving skills.
  • You have good personal relationship skills. You care about those around you and endeavour to maintain good rapport and friendly communications.
  • Once proficient, you will be comfortable to provide on-site training of end users where/when required.
  • Ability to read, analyse, and interpret electronic/electrical and flow schematics.
  • Technical/analytical skills in PC communications and operating systems. Programming skills and experience with embedded systems will be well regarded.
  • Proficiency in the use of test meters, multi-meters, etc.
  • It would be well regarded if you have an electrical and/or instrument license.
  • You have experience operating and repairing analysers at the bench, in laboratories, and on-site in remote areas. You work through problems in a logical way and are committed to outcomes.
  • Ability to organise, write, and prepare service reports in a timely manner in accordance with certified systems.
  • Must complete and pass pre-employment medicals and drug & alcohol testing.
  • The successful applicants must be prepared once suitably trained to travel to metropolitan areas plus mine sites and commercial laboratories in remote areas within Australia and potentially international locations for servicing and training.
  • You have a current, valid manual motor vehicle driver’s license. You are comfortable driving significant distances to remote locations and taking aircraft to sites and working at heights for emissions monitoring.
