The Residential Care Officer will maximise opportunities for ACL Disability Servicesclients to live a full and meaningful life in the areas of activities of daily living, social and
recreational participation in the community and increased decision making and choice.
Responsibilities
Service Delivery- Become familiar with the individual needs and care requirements for each client.
- Provide personal care assistance (as required) for clients of ACL Disability Services. This task must be completed with the highest level of discretion while respecting the dignity of the client, and in line with the routine developed for the individual client and duty of care obligations.
- Provide support and education to enhance independent living skills for clients of ACL Disability Services. This may consist of teaching domestic tasks around the home, laundry routines, meal preparation and a variety of tasks that will assist the client to lead as independent life as possible.
- Provide support to the client with budgeting and implement any financial management plans and routines that are in place for individual clients. In accommodation settings, this includes completing daily documentation in individual client ledgers, as well as a general housekeeping account.
- Assist with planning and implementing a variety of social and recreational activities, including Individual Program Plans (IPP's) and travel whilst encouraging choice and control for the clients of ACL Disability Services.
- Become familiar with any behaviour support / multi element support plans for clients with behaviours of concern, and implement plans in to the support routines using a positive behaviour support strategy.
- Submit a variety of routine administrative reporting via the ACL Disability Services Intranet system, in line with Policies and Procedure guidelines.
- Complete miscellaneous duties at the request of the Chief Executive Officer, Service Coordinator or relevant Group home Manager.
- Uphold the rights, dignity and independence of the clients of ACL Disability Services.
- Ensure that a person-centered approach is adopted when providing support to all ACL Disability Services clients.
- Establish and work towards personal goals that are established in supervision meetings with your manager.
- Build a collaborative relationship with colleagues and management.
- Take part in regular supervision meetings with Group Home Managers (as per role) Service Coordinator or Chief Executive Officer.
- Role model appropriate dress, manner, language and social skills for clients of ACL Disability Services.
- Participate in training programs and team meetings as required.
- Participate in mentoring and guiding new staff members within the work environment.
- Show initiative and be able to manage individual work requirements while also working as part of a team.
- Become familiar with the aims, objectives and mission statement of ACL Disability Services.
- Abide by the ACL Disability Services Confidentiality agreement, the Code of Conduct and the Code of Ethics.
- Assist in the identification of hazards, the assessment of risks and the implementation of risk control measures and abide by WHS Policy and Procedures.
- Represent the organisation's reputation and image when dealing with key stakeholders and members of the public.
- Assist management and other colleagues in their dedication to continuous improvement.
- Communicate with colleagues in a respectful and professional manner.
- Raise queries or concerns with the appropriate Managers or Service Coordinator.
- Ensure reporting on client progress is completed in a timely fashion, ensuring all documentation is factual and objective.
- Ensure that the appropriate communication method is utilised with individual clients.
