Duties and Responsibilities
The Metal Fabricator will play a key role in the production and assembly of steel and metal components for modular accommodation units and structural frameworks. Working as part of the fabrication and assembly team, this role involves interpreting technical drawings, fabricating components, and ensuring the structural integrity and finish quality of all metal assemblies in line with company standards
Key Responsibilities:- Study blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand fabrication requirements for modular accommodation units.
- Select, clean, and prepare metal stock, including steel and aluminium, for fabrication processes.
- Cut marked-out metal sections using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines.
- Shape and bend metal components using presses, rollers, hand tools, and heating techniques as required.
- Accurately align parts to be joined, using measuring instruments and hand tools to ensure proper fit and finish.
- Join metal sections using various welding methods, including MIG and TIG welding, as well as bolting and riveting techniques.
- Inspect and examine welds for bead width, penetration, alignment, and precision to meet engineering standards.
- Clean, polish, file, and finish fabricated items, including smoothing welds using grinders, files, and chisels.
- Perform final surface treatments and finishing processes including acid bathing or protective coating applications.
- Collaborate with the production and design team to troubleshoot fabrication challenges and ensure project timelines are met.
- Adhere to company safety protocols and Australian workplace health and safety regulations at all times.
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
- At least one year of highly relevant experience in metal fabrication
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and engineering plans
- Strong welding skills across a range of methods, including MIG and TIG.
- Skilled in the use of fabrication equipment, tools, and machinery
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
