The Role:We’re seeking a dynamic Production Manager to lead our Beenleigh manufacturing operations. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for efficiency, quality, and team leadership. You’ll oversee the entire production lifecycle, driving continuous improvement while maintaining SDI’s reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and execute production strategies for plastic injection moulding processes, including cycle time optimisation, material selection and procurement (e.g., polymers, resins), and Mold lifecycle management.
- Forecast production volumes and cost, aligning resources with client demands for prototypes, short-run batches, and large-scale orders.
- Oversee injection moulding machine operations, ensuring optimal parameters (temperature, pressure, cooling rates) to achieve defect-free products.
- Implement rigorous quality assurance protocols for dimensional accuracy, material integrity, and compliance with client specifications (e.g., medical, automotive, or consumer goods standards).
- Collaborate with toolmakers to design, maintain, and repair precision Molds and Dies, minimising downtime and extending tool longevity.
- Lead trials for new Mold and Dies commissioning, troubleshooting issues like flash, sink marks, or warping.
- Manage raw material inventory (e.g., thermoplastics, additives) and liaise with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement and minimal waste.
- Drive sustainability initiatives, such as recycling scrap plastic or optimising material usage in line with circular economy principles.
- Research advanced moulding technologies (e.g., gas-assisted injection, overmoulding) and automation systems to enhance productivity.
- Enforce strict safety standards for high-temperature machinery, molten plastic handling, and chemical usage, ensuring compliance with Australian OHS and global regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments for new tooling setups or material changes.
- Partner with product design teams to ensure manufacturability of CAD models, advising on draft angles, wall thickness, and gate placement.
- Coordinate with global teams in Malaysia and China to align production workflows and share technical best practices.
- Mentor technicians and operators in moulding techniques, preventive maintenance, and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging staff to propose efficiency gains or cost-saving solutions.
- Oversee product lifecycle management from prototyping to warehousing.
- Support customer consultations to align production capabilities with client needs.
- Stay updated on industry trends, sustainability practices, and regulatory changes.
Employment Type: Full-Time (38 hours per week)
What We’re Looking For:- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year in production management, preferably in plastics, manufacturing, or injection moulding.
