About Us: Aged Health Care Pty Ltd trading as Discount Chemist Online is a forward-thinking

pharmacy in Australia specializing in the meticulous packaging of medications for residential aged care facilities. Committed to enhancing efficiency and accuracy, we’re embarking on an ambitious project to design and develop an advanced medication-packing robot.
Role Overview:
We’re seeking a talented and experienced Industrial/Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in robotics, automation, and embedded systems. This role will involve designing, prototyping, and implementing a custom robotic solution specifically engineered to package medication safely, efficiently, and with a high degree of precision.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for both mechanical engineering and embedded firmware development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Lead the mechanical design of a robotic medication-packing system, including prototyping, material selection, and component design.
  • Process Engineering: Examine and evaluate existing logistics and use of staff, facilities, materials and equipment; make recommendations on optimisation of current processes with a view of increasing operational efficiency.
  • Precision Mechanisms: Develop precision mechanisms for safe handling of small objects (medication), ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Create prototypes, conduct testing, and refine designs to ensure optimal performance, durability, and adherence to strict safety and hygiene requirements.
  • Firmware Integration: Collaborate on firmware development for motor control, sensor integration, and system diagnostics, ensuring smooth coordination between hardware and software.
  • Project Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers and quality assurance, to achieve high standards of operational reliability and regulatory compliance.

Technical Requirements:

  • Mechanical Design Proficiency: Extensive experience in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Auto CAD) for designing robotic components and systems.
  • Embedded Systems and Firmware Development
  • Experience with embedded C/C++ programming, ideally for ARM-based microcontrollers, to handle firmware requirements such as motor control, actuator coordination, and sensor data processing.
  • Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) for precise task management and error handling.
  • Electro-Mechanical Integration: Knowledge of motor selection (stepper, servo, etc.), sensor integration (proximity, optical, force), and actuator mechanics to meet performance and accuracy demands.
  • Control Systems: Familiarity with control theory, PID controllers, and kinematics for robotic applications.
  • Materials and Manufacturing Knowledge: Understanding of materials suited for healthcare environments, including their durability, cleanliness, and safety implications.
  • Quality Standards and Compliance: Experience with design and documentation for compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 13485 for medical devices).

Preferred Skills:

  • Additional Coding Knowledge: Familiarity with Python for prototyping, data analysis, or communication between the robot and other systems.
  • Communication Protocols: Understanding of common communication protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART for seamless interaction between components.
  • 3D Printing and Rapid Prototyping: Experience in prototyping with 3D printing or CNC machining to quickly iterate and test designs.

What We Offer:

  • An exciting opportunity to drive technological innovation in the healthcare sector
  • A collaborative, supportive work environment with a mission-driven team
  • Competitive salary ($85-90K) and potential for professional growth within the company
How to Apply: Please send your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
