About The Client
Punjabi Thali Restaurant is a highly reviewed traditional Indian restaurant in Springvale in Victoria. They are currently looking for an experienced Cook to join their expanding team.
The Role
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting authentic Indian dishes while supporting efficient kitchen operations and maintaining consistency, hygiene, and quality standards.
This is a full time role with an annual salary set between $76,856 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities- Prepare, cook, and present authentic Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes, portion sizes, and quality standards.
- Prepare curries, gravies, sauces, spice blends, and tandoori marinades from raw ingredients using traditional cooking methods.
- Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment including tandoors, ovens, grills, fryers, and gas cooktops safely and effectively.
- Assist with food preparation activities including washing, cutting, marinating, and portioning ingredients prior to service.
- Ensure all food is prepared and served in compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Monitor food quality during preparation and cooking to ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation.
- Follow kitchen schedules to ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals during service periods.
- Assist with stock rotation, food storage, and inventory control to minimise wastage and maintain freshness of ingredients.
- Report equipment faults, food quality issues, or supply shortages to senior kitchen staff or management.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, cooking equipment, and food storage areas at all times.
- Support senior kitchen staff as required to ensure smooth kitchen operations and customer satisfaction.
The Requirements:
To be considered for the position you must meet the following requirements:
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 18 months’ experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
- Minimum of 18 months’ experience preparing authentic Indian cuisine, including curries, sauces, and tandoori-style dishes.
- Minimum of 18 months’ experience operating commercial kitchen equipment such as tandoors, grills, ovens, and fryers.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and safe food handling procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, recipes, and kitchen procedures accurately.
- Ability to work a flexible roster including weekends and public holidays.
- Commitment to teamwork, professionalism, and high standards of food preparation.
