Responsibilities include:

As a Field Service Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) at Amada, responsibilities encompass the full lifecycle of CNC sheet metal machinery, from installation and testing to troubleshooting, maintenance, minor design tasks, and customer support. Key responsibilities included, but not limited to:

  • Planning and organizing service activities: Coordinating installation schedules, site assessments, and customer requirements to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.
  • Installing and commissioning CNC machinery: Ensuring accurate alignment, integration, and functionality of the machinery on-site, following all technical specifications and safety protocols.
  • Conducting pre-installation site assessments: Evaluating space, power requirements, and other factors to determine optimal equipment placement and ensure operational feasibility.
  • Testing and fine-tuning machine performance: Adjusting parameters such as laser focus, feed rate, and cutting settings to ensure precision cuts across various material thicknesses.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical faults: Performing diagnostic tests to identify issues in hydraulic, pneumatic, and structural systems, utilizing technical manuals and troubleshooting expertise to restore equipment functionality.
  • Performing decommissioning tasks: Managing the safe disassembly and relocation of equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Executing routine and preventive maintenance: Carrying out scheduled maintenance activities, including part replacements, lubrication, and mechanical adjustments, to minimize downtime and extend machine lifespan.
  • Designing and modifying mechanical components: Contributing to CAD-based designs for shims, jigs and other components, optimizing system alignment and functionality.
  • Utilizing CAD and nesting software: Designing and testing mechanical systems, optimizing material usage and reducing wastage through lean manufacturing practices.
  • Modifying PLC parameters: Adjusting basic PLC settings for optimal machine performance, performing basic troubleshooting of PLC-controlled systems.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting: Offering expert guidance to customers for resolving operational issues, ensuring machines meet performance standards.
  • Conducting root cause analysis: Analysing and identifying the causes of system failures, recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence and improve machine reliability.
  • Generating technical reports: Providing detailed documentation of service actions, machine performance, and recommended improvements.
  • Training and mentoring customer teams: Delivering on-site training for operators to ensure understanding of machine operations, troubleshooting procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Promoting Amada's products and services: Identifying customer needs and actively promoting the sales of machine tools, and associated equipment to improve customer production capabilities and enhance long-term relationships.
  • Collaborating with internal teams: Working alongside engineers to align service practices, share knowledge, and ensure consistent service quality.

To ensure success in this role, you will possess/demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing) or equivalent.
  • Current unrestricted Driver License in state of residence
  • A minimum of 3 years of previous experience in an Engineering, Maintenance or Service role.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting electrical/electronic/hydraulic and mechanical drawings and systems.
  • Sound computer skills including use of Microsoft Office suite and CRM databases.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with a wide range of people.
  • Flexible to work non-standard hours and travel as required.
  • Customer service oriented.
