Financial Accountant
About the business:
Our client is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join their team on a 6-month contract which rill run to March 2025 - with the possibility of extension. In this role you will be working closely with the Financial Controller and provide hands on support during a busy period and to ensure they are well prepared for their December year end.
Role Overview:
As a Financial Accountant, you will play a critical role in overseeing key financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all reporting, and supporting the finance team with high-level reconciliations and end-of-month procedures. You will also handle various ad hoc financial projects that require senior-level input.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations
- Reconciliations: Perform complex reconciliations, including general ledger, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are identified and resolved
- Month-End Closing: Lead the month-end close process, including the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and financial reports
- Variance Analysis: Conduct detailed financial analysis, identifying and explaining key variances and providing insights to senior management
- Ad Hoc Financial Projects: Support special financial projects and strategic initiatives, providing high-level transactional and reporting expertise
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- CPA or CA certification
- 5+ years of experience in a senior financial accounting role, preferably within the resources or similar industry
- Strong knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS, GAAP) and financial reporting requirements
- Proficiency with accounting software (SAP, Oracle, MYOB, or similar)
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage tight deadlines
