The Company

Are you ready to take the next step in your accounting career and play a key role in a dynamic and growing business? A highly respected family-owned property development company, specialising in medium to large-scale residential and commercial construction projects, is seeking a talented Senior Accountant to join their expanding team.

With over two decades of experience in delivering award-winning developments across Melbourne, the company is entering an exciting growth phase, including a move to a brand-new South Melbourne office and a strong pipeline of government and private sector projects.

About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant will take ownership of the company's entire accounting function. This is a hands-on role that combines operational accounting tasks with strategic decision-making opportunities.

As part of a collaborative finance team, you'll contribute to driving efficiencies in processes and systems while supporting the business during a significant growth cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare accurate financial statements, oversee tax and regulatory compliance, and manage annual financial reporting processes in collaboration with external accountants.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee AP/AR, payroll, and general ledger functions; manage cash flow and treasury operations; implement robust internal controls.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts, analyse financial performance, and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Project Accounting: Monitor financial performance of property development projects, ensure accurate cost allocation, and support margin analysis for current and future developments.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Mentor junior finance team members, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and act as a strategic partner to the CFO.

About You

To excel in this role, you will be:

  • A qualified accountant with a CPA or CA certification (or working towards it).
  • Experienced in accounting, with 5+ years in a similar role (property development experience is a bonus).
  • Proficient in accounting software, advanced Excel, and (ideally) ERP systems.
  • Knowledgeable in accounting standards (e.g., IFRS or GAAP) and tax regulations.
  • A strategic thinker with exceptional attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Why Join Us?
  • Be part of a family-owned business with a strong reputation and a supportive, collaborative culture.
  • Work on diverse, high-value projects across residential, commercial, and government sectors.
  • Enjoy opportunities for career progression as the company continues to grow.
  • Contribute to an exciting period of transformation, including the move to a new South Melbourne office.

This is your chance to make a significant impact on a growing business while advancing your own career in the property development industry.
