The opportunity

This role is all about building financial models for our clients, who are startups and scaleups throughout Australia.

You will develop forecasts, scenario analyses and customised financial models to give our clients the clarity and insights needed to make the best decisions. Your work will form part of our virtual CFO service, where we provide CFO support to businesses that need the benefits of financial expertise without the cost.

Working with our partners and virtual CFOs, you’ll enjoy the dynamism of startups and high-growth businesses and the satisfaction of helping them go from startup to stay up. The hands-on nature of working with these clients on everything from bank loans to venture capital funding and overseas expansion is a unique setting to fast-track your commercial knowledge.

Specifically, you will:

  • Identify data opportunities with clients
  • Work with clients and suppliers to extract the data you need
  • Organise meetings and present to clients, as part of our virtual CFO team
  • Development of financial analysis and modeling tools to facilitate decision making
  • Consolidate the group budget and forecasts including preparing detailed annual budgets and rolling reforecast models interacting closely with key stakeholders.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting for Australia, North America, UK, EU and Asia.
  • Continuously improve the annual budgeting model for P&L, cash-flow and balance sheet.
  • Assist with product costing and analysis.
  • Prepare margin calculations and analysis.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis.
  • Conduct commercial analysis and bench marking e.g. customer/region profitability analysis.
  • Identify and support revenue enhancement opportunities including analysis of inventory levels e.g. slow moving SKUs, seasonal trends.
  • Support the set-up of the accounting function in each new market as they go-live.
  • Support for new business development.
  • Provide financial and commercial decision-making support across the business as and when required.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to provide insights into the financial performance of the company.
  • Implement and maintain effective cost control measures to optimize financial efficiency.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between financial goals and operational activities.
  • Assist in the development and enhancement of financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and data-driven recommendations.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.

You will be working alongside our Sydney or Melbourne partner in a coworking space – and from home when it suits.

Requirements

You will need:

  • At least a Bachelor's/College Degree , Accountancy/Business/Finance, Management Engineering, Economics or equivalent.
  • Licensed CPA/CA, preferred but not required.
  • At least 1-3 year(s) of working experience in analysis of financial statements and building financial models is required.
  • Has the ability to focus on business controlling (e.g., financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting)
  • Previous experience working within the consulting or advisory industry (desirable)
  • Strong command of analytics, modelling, and simulation skills
  • Highly analytical, detail-oriented, dynamic, and have strong communication and presentations skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office with particularly strong competence on MS Excel
  • Experience working with ERP systems would be seen favourably.
  • Understanding of multi-currency and multi-entity structure experience, including inter-company transactions would be beneficial.
