As CoinJar’s Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll be responsible for leading CoinJar’s legal function globally. A hands-on and senior role where you can expect to take ownership of our corporate governance, legal and compliance projects from inception and influence the company’s future product direction based on your expertise.

This includes ensuring CoinJar is best placed for expansion into new markets while also complying with its existing legal and regulatory requirements.

This role will report directly to the Board of Directors and will work closely with our product, compliance and marketing teams.

You will ideally have significant experience advising on financial services regulatory matters, including regulatory responses and licensing. Prior experience in cryptocurrency markets is a plus.

Position Responsibilities
  • Lead licensing initiatives from planning to submission (AFSL, credit, e-money, payment services etc) and VASP registrations as it relates to company expansion.
  • Stay on top of and advise the business on forthcoming changes to the legal and regulatory landscape.
  • Lead company expansion initiatives as it relates to legal, compliance and corporate governance matters.
  • Support the company with capital raising initiatives, due diligence and investor relations.
  • Provide advice on new product development initiatives and collaborate with external legal counsel where necessary.
  • Draft and amend customer facing documents such as terms of service, privacy policies and regulatory disclosures.
  • Represent the company through consultation with local regulators, engage with industry bodies and key business partners. Assist the company in ensuring compliance with its AML Compliance Programs by supporting the Compliance and FinCrime Operations Teams.
  • Actively engage with the Board and wider team through regular reporting and sharing of information about the regulatory environment and the progress of internal legal and compliance initiatives.
Requirements
  • Currently practicing as a lawyer in Australia with 5+ years of post-admission experience in a reputable financial services regulatory team or in-house at a regulated financial services business.
  • Demonstrable interest in digital currency and blockchain technology.
  • Experience working with relevant Australian regulators, including ASIC and AUSTRAC.
  • Experience owning and running projects from start to finish.
