Our client, N J B Pty Ltd t/a Spar, Macleay Island operates an independent supermarket under the SPAR brand and is dedicated to providing the community with the freshest groceries, fruits, and vegetables, dairy products and non-food items. The store is known for its friendly atmosphere, exceptional customer service, and high-quality products.The client is looking for a to fill a full time position for a skilled and experienced Accountant.
As a crucial member of the team, you will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting functions, analyse and advise on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments and future revenues. You will be involved with the full accounting cycle, from initial transaction to reporting and statutory filing.
The role reports to the Director and involves assisting the business in all accounting and financial areas of the business. Regular liaison with key stakeholders of the business is an important function of the role. Your direct input with continuous assessment of operational needs across the enterprise and participation in strategic development and direction of the business is essential.
You must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. At least one year previous experience as an Accountant is must.
In this role your main responsibilities include:- Manage and close the month end process, quarterly and annual (P&L, BS), accurately and in line with deadlines
- Ensure timely completion of journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
- Collaborate with the Store Operations teams to monitor store-level expenses, inventory accuracy, and cost control initiatives.
- Prepare annual budgets in liaison with key stake holders
- Report monthly on budget to actuals
- Preparation of company and Individual income tax returns and financial statements
- Preparation of Payroll Tax, PAYG, BAS returns and FBT returns
- Assist in the formulation of budgetary and accounting policies
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing of supplier invoices, payments, and customer receipts in accordance with company’s financial policies.
- Examine operating costs and the income and expenditure
- Provide assurance about the accuracy of information contained in financial reports
- Provide financial and taxation advice on business structures, plans and operations
- Ensure compliance with taxation, GST, FBT, and other statutory obligations, working closely with internal and external auditors as needed.
- Perform regular financial analysis and cost reporting, providing actionable insights to management to support data-driven decision-making.
- Prepare monthly financial management reports for senior management
- Analyze revenue and expenditure against budget
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to organise work, setting priorities and meeting reporting/statutory deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Strong Microsoft Office and Accounting Software skills, with the ability to pick up other software quickly.
