We are seeking an experienced and analytical Production or Plant Engineer to plan, coordinate, and optimise the design, operation, and maintenance of equipment and machinery within industrial plant environments. This role is vital in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and productivity of manufacturing systems, while also contributing to ongoing process improvements and quality assurance initiatives.

The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in mechanical systems, automation, and manufacturing process design, along with strong project coordination and problem-solving skills. Registration or licensing may be required, depending on project or state-level requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and modification of equipment and machinery used in industrial and manufacturing facilities.
Monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and safety of plant machinery, ensuring alignment with production goals.
Analyse production data, equipment layouts, and operational workflows to recommend improvements in plant efficiency and resource utilisation.
Coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance programs to reduce downtime and increase asset lifespan.
Develop and manage engineering specifications, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control measures.
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement initiatives.
Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of technical issues across mechanical, electrical, or control systems.
Evaluate automation technologies, control systems, and digital tools to streamline manufacturing and reporting functions.
Lead technical aspects of procurement, contractor engagement, and vendor selection for plant upgrades and modifications.

Ensure compliance with WHS regulations, environmental standards, and applicable Australian engineering codes.

Required Qualifications & Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).

3–5+ years of relevant experience in plant engineering, process optimisation, or manufacturing project roles.
Strong understanding of plant equipment, production line setup, control systems, and industrial automation.
Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SCADA, PLC programming, and manufacturing simulation software.
Demonstrated ability to analyse data, write technical reports, and deliver performance improvement strategies.

Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

Desirable: Professional registration with Engineers Australia (or eligibility).

Industry experience in FMCG, mining, energy, automotive, or pharmaceuticals.

Certification in Lean Six Sigma, TPM, ISO 9001, or relevant plant operations frameworks.
