Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has opened for an Internship – Trading Systems & Operations to join our team based in our Melbourne office in a part-time capacity. The role will support our investment research, trading, and operations teams, providing input and exposure across all areas of the business.The successful candidate will play a key role in helping to build and automate workflows across the investment process.
Your day will involve owning projects right across the investment process – from improving our ability to identify & act upon investment opportunities, to streamlining the trade support process, assisting with implementing new trading systems, and providing trade support to the team.This role provides exceptional exposure to senior decision makers in the business and a great opportunity to add incremental value on a daily basis to an early-stages fund.
This position requires a highly-motivated, detail-orientated individual, capable of running multiple projects simultaneously and prioritising in a fast-paced environment. You will be an exceptional communicator and display a deep interest in – and excitement for - financial markets.Ideal for a final-year undergraduate or post-graduate student.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide trade support to the operational team, including pre and post-trade, and assist with trading system maintenance.
- Assist research team with building out coverage of new markets and improving infrastructure for existing ones.
- Assist portfolio management team with risk & performance reporting.
- Assist with integration of our fundamental & quantitative analysis teams.
- Develop Excel macros and Python scripts to automate recurring data tasks and reports.
- Create dashboards and templates for tracking KPIs, portfolio metrics, or market movements.
- Identify inefficiencies in current processes and propose scalable tech-driven solutions.
- Minimum of final year(s) Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or any related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience using libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and/or SQLAlchemy for data analysis and automation.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and VBA/macros.
- Experience with reporting automation and dashboard creation (Excel, Python, or BI tools like Tableau/Power BI is a plus).
- Exposure to Bloomberg Terminal functions and data retrieval tools (e.g., Excel API) – desirable
- Business-level Mandarin/Cantonese - desirable
