Summary
Barny Café and Restaurant is seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our busy kitchen team on a full-time basis (38 hours per week).
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking quality meals, assisting with kitchen operations, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting the Head Chef in daily kitchen activities. The role requires experience in preparing Indian cuisine and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment
Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and cook a variety of food items in accordance with restaurant recipes and standards.
- Assist in preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner meals, gourmet pizzas, burgers, chicken dishes, and Indian cuisine.
- Examine foodstuffs to ensure quality, freshness, and compliance with food safety standards.
- Set up workstations with ingredients, cooking utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, and other cooking equipment.
- Prepare ingredients including washing, peeling, cutting, marinating, and portioning food items.
- Season food during preparation and cooking.
- Portion food, place meals on plates, and add sauces, gravies, and garnishes.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation and presentation stages.
- Store food in temperature-controlled facilities and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Monitor stock levels and notify management of shortages or ordering requirements.
- Assist in menu preparation, planning, and daily specials as directed by the Head Chef.
- Prepare meals to accommodate special dietary requirements where required.
- Assist in estimating food and ingredient requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Assist in training and supervising junior kitchen staff and apprentices where required.
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar Cook position within a busy restaurant or café environment.
- Experience and knowledge in preparing and cooking Indian dishes.
- Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety standards.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
