Metal Machinist
Vacmould Displays Pty Ltd is one of Australia’s largest and most trusted manufacturers of plastic vacuum moulded and fabric components. From our manufacturing plant in Airport West, Victoria we have the capacity to produce any vacuum moulded or fabric part from small one-off orders through to large-scale quantities.
As a growing company, Vacmould Displays Pty Ltd is looking for an experienced and reliable Metal Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have experience with setting up and operating CNC/Laser machines, a sound knowledge of AutoCAD and experience working in a fast-paced multi-product manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities include:- Programming and setting up CNC router using CAM, Toolpath and Meshcam;
- Setting and operating machinery including starting and stopping the mechanisms, loading materials, machine set-up and calibration and understanding the basic controls to ensure production efficiency;
- Operating and programming laser machines using Light Burn Laser software;
- Developing programs to increase speed and feed rate according to material to enhance the productivity of CNC machines;
- Reading and interpreting blueprints or technical drawings to understand the specifications, tolerance, and dimensions of the part to be machined, and determine the sequence of operations and machine settings;
- Using measuring tools like Vernier Calipers, Micrometers, Bore Gauge and other gauges to measure and inspect machined parts to ensure they meet the specified dimensions and tolerances;
- Monitoring performance metrics such as cycle times, throughout rates, and scrap rates on a regular basis in order to maintain optimal output levels from the laser and CNC machines;
- Training new personnel on how to use the laser and CNC machines, as well as how to safely operate them without compromising quality standards;
- Diagnosing faults, troubleshooting breakdowns and performing regular maintenance and repairs on machinery; and
- Identifying unsafe practises in the warehouse and workspace and report to Manager.
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Certificate III or equivalent and/or a higher qualification in a relevant field;
- Minimum 3+ years experience in a similar role;
- Ability to understand sequencing methods for programs;
- Knowledge of program fault diagnostics;
- Ability to understand CAD, software AUTOCAD hardcopy;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent organisational and time management skills;
- Good math skills, particularly in geometry and trigonometry;
- Willingness to learn and take instructions from the Managing Director and other senior staff members;
- Exceptional eye for detail;
- Ability to work in a multicultural group work environment or autonomously if required; and
- Experienced with using hand and power tools.
Job details: The successful candidate will be required to work at our warehouse in Airport West, Victoria.
