Namaste on High is seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join our team at our vibrant Indian dining venue located at 104 High Street, Berwick VIC 3806. Namaste on High offers a warm and modern dining experience where traditional Indian flavours are presented with care, creativity and attention to quality.
The restaurant is fully licensed and provides dine-in, takeaway, delivery, reservations and catering services, creating a busy and varied kitchen environment. At Namaste on High, food is more than a meal. It is a celebration of culture, connection and hospitality.
Our team takes pride in serving flavourful Indian dishes, carefully prepared meals, quality cocktails and a welcoming customer experience for families, couples, groups and the wider Berwick community. The restaurant operates across lunch and dinner services on most days, with extended evening trade from Thursday to Saturday.

We are now looking for an experienced Chef who can contribute to our kitchen operations, maintain consistent food standards and support the continued growth of the business.

Chef – Full-Time | Namaste on High – Berwick, VIC

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting with stock control, wastage reduction and efficient use of ingredients without compromising quality.
  • Supporting special dietary requests where possible, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-sensitive or customer-specific preferences.
  • Working with management to maintain the restaurant’s reputation for authentic flavour, warm hospitality and high-quality Indian cuisine.
  • Ordering, receiving and checking food supplies to ensure ingredients are fresh, suitable, correctly stored and available for smooth kitchen operations.
  • Estimating food requirements for daily service, functions and catering orders, and assisting management with food cost control and labour planning.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, cool room, dry store, preparation areas and cooking stations.
  • Monitoring dishes at each stage of preparation and service to ensure meals are cooked correctly, presented attractively and served within required timeframes.
  • Preparing sauces, marinades, spice mixes, gravies, stocks and other base items required for efficient Indian kitchen production.
  • Preparing and cooking a wide range of Indian dishes, including curries, tandoori items, entrees, rice dishes, breads, accompaniments and other menu items in accordance with Namaste on High’s recipes and presentation standards.
  • Maintaining consistent flavour, texture, portion size and presentation across dine-in, takeaway, delivery and catering orders.
  • Assisting with menu planning and seasonal menu development by contributing ideas based on customer preferences, ingredient availability, food trends and the restaurant’s Indian dining concept.
  • Demonstrating cooking methods and guiding junior kitchen staff in correct preparation techniques, use of equipment, portion control and plating standards.
  • Ensuring all food is prepared in compliance with hygiene, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Enforcing safe food handling practices, including correct temperature control, cleaning procedures, storage labelling, stock rotation and prevention of cross-contamination.
  • Supervising kitchen operations during service to maintain quality, efficiency and teamwork in a busy restaurant environment.
  • Preserving, freezing and storing prepared food items, sauces or ingredients where appropriate to maintain freshness and reduce wastage.
  • Managing preparation schedules to ensure the kitchen is ready for lunch, dinner, takeaway, delivery and catering service periods.
Skills and Experience Required
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef or in a similar commercial kitchen role.
  • An AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a relevant field.
Hours: 38 hours per week

Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum
