Research Assistant – Social ScienceThe Children’s Hospital, Westmead
The National Centre for Immunisation Research & Surveillance (NCIRS) has an opportunity for an organised and motivated Research Assistant to join the dynamic Social Science team supporting planning and implementing the national surveillance project measuring drivers of vaccine uptake.

What you'll be doing
The purpose of this role is to provide high quality support for NCIRS Social Science Unit primary research and other projects. The primary focus will be on supporting planning and implementation of a national surveillance project measuring drivers of vaccine uptake.This role will also support other Social Science Unit projects as needed, including developing a national hub of immunisation communication resources and training for a range of populations (the Sharing Knowledge About Immunisation (SKAI) 'Across the Lifespan' project); providing secretariat for the Collaboration on Social Science in Immunisation (COSSI); and supporting Social Science Unit stakeholder groups including a Social Science Unit Advisory Group, Consumer Advisory Group and Provider Reference Group.
The preferred candidate will be someone working towards a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification or a combination of study and work experience. They will have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and documented experience managing ethics applications.An understanding of issues relating to vaccination acceptance and uptake is desirable. Working towards a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification or a combination of study and work experience.Demonstrated experience in assisting primary research activities, especially the preparation and management of ethics applications from initiation to completion.
Familiarity with REGIS submission processes, ability to draft application documents, ability to coordinate responses to ethics committees, ability to troubleshoot, ability to manage communication with ethics/governance teams and other stakeholders as required.
Excellent organisational skills including planning and attention to detail, and ability to manage time effectively, with demonstrated experience in project management.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), including demonstrated experience with setting up agendas, taking minutes, initiating communication with, and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders including demonstrated skills in editing publications, presentations, reports.
Demonstrated high level computer skills including using the Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Teams, and Zoom. Demonstrated skills in setting up and facilitating Teams or Zoom-based meetings. Demonstrated skills in formatting publications, presentations, reports.
Interest in and an understanding of the social science of immunisation and issues relating to vaccination acceptance and uptake.Familiarity with Jira and Jira management practices.
