About the role:As a Chef, you will be responsible for the day-to-day preparation and cooking of menu items, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and efficient service across all trading periods. The role involves planning kitchen operations, managing food preparation processes, monitoring standards, and maintaining a clean and compliant work environment.
You will work closely with management and front-of-house staff to support smooth service, contribute to menu execution, and assist in training and supervising kitchen team members. This position requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced restaurant setting.
Key Responsibilities:- Plan and organise menu execution and daily kitchen operations, including estimating food and labour requirements and ordering supplies
- Prepare and cook a variety of menu items, including all-day breakfast dishes, hot meals, baked items, and light mains, ensuring consistency
- Supervise and monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking, and presentation to ensure dishes meet established standards.
- Liaise with management, kitchen, and front-of-house staff to address preparation requirements, special requests, and service-related issues.
- Demonstrate correct cooking techniques and provide guidance on preparation methods, portion control, and presentation standards.
- Enforce food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety practices in line with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the selection, training, and supervision of kitchen staff to maintain smooth operations and develop team skills.
- Manage proper storage, freezing, and preservation of food items where required, minimising waste and maintaining product quality.
- Minimum 2 - 3 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a café or restaurant environment, ideally in a high-volume, quality-focused operation
- Diploma of Hospitality Management or higher qualification in hospitality, culinary arts, or management
- Strong understanding of menu planning, cost control, and food safety standards
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining quality and presentation
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations
