What you'll do:
The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) will be a senior engineering professional providing key contributions to the systems engineering lifecycle of a Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) project for the Australian Government. The SSE will be an integral part of a dedicated project team in Viasat International Government (IG) business, working closely with the Viasat Global Space Network (GSN) team and Customer technical representatives.This role involves driving the systems engineering lifecycle, managing technical documentation and deliverables, overseeing design reviews, and ensuring compliance with program technical requirements.
This full-time role is based in Sydney, offering flexible home/office working arrangements with occasional travel required.
The day-to-day:
- Lead systems engineering for the program to meet the technical objectives set by the management plans, master schedule, and program requirements
- Primary point of contact between Customer technical representatives and GSN technical team
- Provide the Project Manager with technical information to support the generation of performance reports
- Develop and maintain Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), V&V plans and other technical management plans
- Prepare and maintain system / sub-system requirements, specifications, interface control, and test documents
- Regularly liaise with the Systems Engineer in the GSN team (based in Toulouse) to obtain technical status and collaborate on the development of technical documentation
- Support the GSN Team with the integration and testing of a new payload and spacecraft manufacturing programme
- Management of system engineering lifecycle from requirement analysis, decomposition, mapping to design, integration and to verification, validation and testing (VV&T) phase
- Lead the technical elements of design, integration and testing reviews and ensure all technical deliverables meet program milestones entry and exit criteria
- Lead the program’s technical engineering meetings and workshops
- Establish strong working relationships with the internal GSN team and Customer representatives
- Ensure adherence to workplace health, safety, and security standards and comply with Company Standards of Conduct

What you'll need:
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- 3-5 years experience working in a systems engineering role in SATCOM / space, ideally on Australian / Five Eyes space/satellite programs
- Degree in an engineering discipline such as electrical/electronic, aerospace, or computer systems
- Systems engineering experience using best practice methodologies (V-Model, Agile)
- Experience in Verification & Validation (V&V) processes, interface control management, requirements traceability, verifications traceability, etc.
- Ability to produce systems engineering project technical documentation such as System Engineering Management Plan (SEMP), Verification & Validation (V&V) Plam, Requirement Traceability Matrix (RTM), Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), test procedures, plans and reports
- Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Cradle) and proficiency in MS Office.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced systems engineering and Verification & Validation (V&V) knowledge
- Certified, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional engineering
