Our esteemed client, Uma Krithika, a well-loved restaurant located in the heart of Annerley, Queensland, is seeking a passionate and experienced full-time Chef to join their talented culinary team. Known for delivering authentic Indian cuisine that blends traditional recipes with modern flair, they have earned a loyal following for their vibrant flavours, warm hospitality, and commitment to quality.
Their kitchen fosters a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning, an environment where Chefs are encouraged to showcase their skills, explore regional specialties, and grow their culinary careers.
The annual salary for the Chef position is $74,000 to $75,000 plus superannuation.
Duties include:
- Mastery of cooking with a tandoor oven to prepare dishes like tandoori chicken, naan, kebabs, and tikka.
- Expertise in preparing various types of curries (gravy-based dishes), ensuring consistency in flavor and texture.
- Skilled in slow-cooking meats for tender results (e.g., Rogan Josh, nihari) and simmering dals for creamy consistency.
- Proficient in making perfect biryani, pulao, steamed rice, and Indian breads like chapati, naan, puri, and paratha.
- Specialise in authentic tandoori cooking—perfect for dishes like naan, kebabs, and tandoori chicken.
- Prepare flavorful curries and gravies, such as korma, vindaloo, and butter chicken.
- Proficient in a wide range of vegetarian and vegan Indian dishes to cater to diverse dietary preferences.
- Skilful in traditional and modern presentation, creating visually appealing meals that taste as good as they look.
- Ability to blend Indian flavours with international cuisines for unique, contemporary dishes.
- Keep track of inventory, ensuring that essential spices, grains, and ingredients are well-stocked.
- Efficient in managing ingredients to minimise food waste while keeping food costs under control.
- Mentor and train kitchen staff in Indian cooking techniques, spice handling, and preparation of key Indian dishes.
- Supervise kitchen staff to ensure smooth kitchen operations and consistent quality of food.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and health & safety at all times.
- Prepare special meals or substitute items. Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters.
- Maintain food logs.
- Monitor the quality and quantity of food that is prepared.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a Diploma in Commercial Cookery.
- Should have at least two (2) years of experience as a Cook.
- Should specialise in Indian Cuisine.
