Manager Workplace Health & Safety
QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role:You will play a pivotal role in supporting QBuild's ambition to strengthen Queensland's building and construction industry by providing expert leadership in safety management, ensuring compliance with WHS standards and legislation. Leading a diverse WH&S team by implanting continual improvement strategies to ensure QBuild is meeting industry best practise and fostering a culture of zero harm.
Duties and skills involved:
- Provide strong leadership in the development and implementation of strategic health, safety, and wellbeing systems, activities, and programs to manage WHS risk across QBuild.
- Offer expert knowledge and advice to key stakeholders on strategic WHS risk matters, including risk management, audit frameworks, contractor management, injury management, rehabilitation, and psychosocial hazards.
- Manage WHS systems, processes, and reporting functions to identify trends and develop strategies and programs for improving QBuild's WHS performance.
- Develop and implement WHS programs aligned with the department's safety management system, supporting effective WHS practices and mitigating risks.
- Lead organizational change strategies to embed a culture of zero harm and enhance overall WHS performance within QBuild.
- Mentor and coach QBuild staff, including senior leaders, WHS Advisors, and operational staff, to develop WHS capability and advance a culture of performance excellence.
Additional requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice and standards applicable to the building construction and maintenance industry, with proven experience in implementing requirements of WHS Standards such as AS/NZS 4801.
- Experience in delivering at pace, high value projects.
- Experience in change management and maturing safety culture.
