Production (Mechanical) Engineer

As we expand our operations, we're looking for a Production (Mechanical) Engineer to join our passionate and driven team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a business that values innovation, continuous improvement, and hands-on problem solving.
Location: Factory 10,13 Gateway Dr Carrums Down VIC 3201Full time: 38 hours per week
Salary: $80,000 per annum + Superannuation
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
> Review and analyse functional statements, organisational charts, and project documents to define roles, responsibilities, and identify inefficiencies or duplication within production processes.> Develop and maintain work measurement programs to monitor labour productivity, ensuring optimal workforce utilisation and effective task allocation.
> Conduct work sampling and time-motion studies to establish standard times and procedures for packaging line operations.
> Analyse production schedules, operational data, and costs to optimise output, reduce downtime, and improve worker-machine balance.
> Design and develop mechanical systems and equipment tailored for food-grade packing, including conveyors, filling machines, sealing units, metal detectors, weighing scales and bagging systems.
> Create detailed specifications for equipment and components, selecting appropriate materials, capacities, and flow layouts to suit food safety and packaging standards.
> Oversee facility layout planning and material flow, ensuring hygienic, efficient, and safe movement of raw materials and finished goods throughout the plant.
> Coordinate the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery, ensuring integration with existing systems and minimal disruption to production.
> Lead maintenance planning by developing schedules for routine and preventive checks to sustain optimal equipment performance.
> Ensure all mechanical systems and operations comply with safety regulations and food industry standards, including HACCP and ISO certifications.
> Inspect machinery and production lines regularly to identify potential issues, reduce breakdowns, and extend the lifespan of critical equipment.
> Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying bottlenecks and recommending mechanical or procedural changes.
> Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality control, production supervisors, and external contractors to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
> Manage the procurement and timely delivery of materials, spare parts, and production equipment, aligning with project and production timelines.
> Establish and enforce engineering policies and standards for modifications, inspections, quality assurance, and safety within the plant.
> Maintaining hygienic conditions for both employees and the factory itself.
Technical Skills Needed:- Mechanical aptitude – Confident operating and maintaining production machinery
- Problem-solving – Able to diagnose and fix issues to minimise disruptions
- Process knowledge – Previous experience with chemicals, filling machines, and
- Automation awareness – Familiar with robotics and PLCs
- HMI experience – Comfortable using machine-human interface (HMI) panels
- Instruction interpretation – Able to follow screen-based and verbal instructions

Qualifications of a Production (Mechanical) Engineer:- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in the field
