Electrical Engineering Technician

RIGCOM seeks a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineering Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience assembling, installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing electrical equipment and installations

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assisting Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists in designing and laying out electrical systems for substations, switchgear, cabling, and motor control systems.
  • Creating technical drawings, schematics, and plans for electrical systems and installations.
Assembling, installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing electrical equipment and installations, ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulations.
  • Conducting tests on electrical systems, gathering data, performing complex calculations, and preparing visual representations such as charts and graphs.
  • Estimating the required materials, costs, and quantities for projects.
  • Reviewing designs and final products to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Performing electrical workshop tasks, including installing components for protection relays, metering systems, and indication devices.
  • Assisting with research and experimental projects.
  • Supporting the engineering team by preparing cost estimates and ensuring systems comply with relevant safety and technical regulations. Registration or certification may be required.
Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; advanced technical training or certification preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of wind industry experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical engineering.
  • Proficiency in composite repair techniques such as vacuum infusion process.
  • Familiarity with wind turbine operations and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English is required.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various remote wind farm locations in the AU/NZ and APAC regions are required.
  • Physical and emotional capability to ascend to considerable heights (100m/330ft) by vertical ladder, suspended platform, boom truck, lifts, or utilising rope access technology multiple times per day while carrying up to 15 kg/30 lbs of additional weight.
  • Physical capability to bend, kneel, climb, and squat with full range of motion and for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
  • Ability to work productively in a variety of adverse conditions.
  • Physical and psychological fitness, with the ability to successfully submit to drug and alcohol testing on a random schedule.
Preferred Skills:
  • GWO Blade Repair or equivalent certification in composite repair (e.g., GL Certification) by OEMs.
  • GWO BST, CPR, Confined Space Entry and Works, Low Voltage (LV) Awareness
  • Experience with multi-brands of wind turbine blades.
  • Knowledge of relevant software for documentation and reporting.
  • IRATA (would be an advantage)
