VeiraMal Consulting is seeking an experienced Fitter to join our clients' company in Craigieburn. Our client, Weld Up Contracting Pty Ltd is looking for an enthusiastic individual who can work well in a team, with strong communication skills.

Position Summary:

The Fitter is responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing mechanical plant and equipment to ensure maximum operational efficiency and safety. This includes fault diagnosis, preventive maintenance, and installation of mechanical components on a range of earthmoving equipment, trucks, and fixed plant used in excavation and construction operations.

Job Descriptions:

• Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on a range of equipment including excavators, skid steers, trenchers, compactors, tipper trucks, and pipe-laying attachments.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults across diesel-powered machinery used in civil works. Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to ensure quick and effective resolution.
• Conduct on-site servicing and emergency breakdown repairs at various civil construction sites across Sydney. Ensure minimal downtime and coordinate effectively with site supervisors.
• Maintain, repair, and install hydraulic systems and pipe-laying attachments. Includes hoses, valves, cylinders, and control systems critical for trenching and excavation operations.
• Overhaul major components such as engines, final drives, and pumps in the workshop environment. Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Accurately log all maintenance and repair tasks in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Maintain service records and inspection checklists to support compliance and operational planning.
• Strictly follow company OH&S policies, conduct daily pre-start inspections, risk assessments, and ensure all work is performed safely, especially in live excavation or pipelaying zones.
• Work closely with operators, supervisors, and other trades to maintain equipment reliability. Display initiative, a “can-do” attitude, and strong communication skills in both workshop and field settings.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Fitter, preferably in the civil construction or earthmoving industry.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and diesel machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
• Familiarity with workplace health and safety procedures.
• Current driver’s license; HR or MR license preferred.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Performance appraisal:

Three months after appointment, then at least annually and/or when required.

Employee must at all time act honestly and in a manner that is consistent with the statues of his position.

Remuneration:

$35 - $40 per hour
