Job Description
As a legal secretary, you will be essential in supporting the legal team with various administrative and clerical tasks.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Document Preparation: Drafting, typing, and formatting legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, and contracts.
- Filing and Organisation: Maintaining and organising legal files to ensure documents are properly filed and easily accessible.
- Scheduling: Managing appointments, court dates, and meetings for attorneys and legal staff.
- Communication: Handling correspondence through phone calls, emails, and letters, acting as a liaison between clients and attorneys.
- Research: Assisting with legal research by gathering information from various sources.
- Court Filings: Preparing and filing documents with the court while ensuring compliance with rules and deadlines.
- Billing and Accounting: Tracking billable hours and assisting with invoicing and financial tasks.
- Client Interaction: Communicating with clients to gather information, provide updates, and schedule meetings.
Your role will be crucial in ensuring the efficient operation of the legal office and supporting the team in their work.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and traits:
Experience and Skills:
- Experience in Personal Injury Law: A strong background in personal injury law is essential, with specific experience in workers compensation, motor vehicle accidents, and/or public liability.
- NSW Workers Compensation Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of NSW workers compensation regulations and procedures is crucial.
- Proficiency in Legal Documentation: Skilled in preparing, reviewing, and managing legal documents and correspondence related to personal injury cases.
- Administrative Expertise: Proven experience in managing administrative tasks, such as scheduling, filing, and maintaining case records.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in legal software and tools commonly used in personal injury practice. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite is also required.
Level of Experience:
- Senior Level Preferred: A senior legal secretary would be ideal due to the need for minimal guidance and the ability to handle complex tasks independently. However, an intermediate-level candidate with solid experience and a strong ability to learn quickly could also be considered.
