Job Description:We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Full-Time Fitter General to join our team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the manufacture, installation, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical equipment, including pumps and hot water systems, which are core to our operations.
This position requires an individual who is proactive, safety-conscious, and has the capability to work independently as well as part of a team to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:- Fabricate and install mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, pressure systems, controller systems, and hot water systems, in accordance with technical drawings and client specifications.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and manuals to ensure the accurate assembly, fabrication, and installation of systems.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using precision tools and diagnostic equipment to replace damaged components.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of installed systems. This includes checking for wear and tear, replacing parts, and performing adjustments when necessary.
- Complete and submit detailed reports of completed tasks, adhering to internal reporting formats. These reports may include maintenance logs, fault reports, and safety documentation.
- Commission equipment, ensuring proper functionality in line with operation manuals. Perform final checks and validate system functionality before handover.
- Use appropriate tools and equipment to cut, shape, press, and fabricate materials such as metal, pipes, and components per technical specifications. This may involve welding, CNC machining, or using specialized fabrication tools.
- Bend, form, and fabricate components to precise measurements and operational requirements, ensuring the components meet operational standards and safety guidelines.
- Perform grinding, drilling, and threading tasks on components, ensuring proper fitting and smooth finishes for the assembly of parts. This may include the use of lathes, saws, and other machinery.
- Modify or adjust mechanical components to improve performance, meet operational standards, and address any feedback from system usage. This could include upgrading existing systems or replacing worn-out parts.
- Work in accordance with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations, company policies, and safety standards. Ensure the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices when handling materials or machinery.
- Work closely with other trades, such as electricians, plumbers, or engineers, to complete installation, maintenance, or repair tasks. Coordinate efforts to ensure systems are integrated properly and meet operational requirements.
- Operate and maintain various machines, such as lathes, milling machines, welders, or CNC machines, to fabricate or repair components. Ensure machines are set up correctly and operate efficiently.
- Upgrade and retrofit existing systems or machinery to improve performance or comply with updated standards. This includes replacing obsolete components with new technology or more efficient systems.
- Conduct specialized testing, such as pressure testing, system performance tests, or safety checks, to ensure systems are functioning as intended and meet regulatory or client requirements.
- Trade Qualification as a Fitter General (or equivalent qualification) and or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, preferably in the commercial sector.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, including components such as pumps, motors, controllers, valves, and piping.
- Proven troubleshooting skills, with the ability to accurately identify faults and implement effective repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to industry safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills to work with the engineering team, clients, and contractors.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to meet project deadlines.
- Experience with electrical systems and integration for pump stations.
- Familiarity with packaged pumping stations and the installation of commercial hot water systems.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards related to mechanical and hydraulic installations.
- Eligible to work in Australia (e.g., Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Visa holder with full working rights).
