Biomedical Engineer Research Assistant

About the role

Mater Centre for Neurosciences is currently seeking applications for a passionate and dedicated Biomedical Engineer Research Assistant to join the Epilepsy team on a part time, 16 hours per week, 12-month max term contract.
This position is based at the Mater Centre for Neurosciences, Mater Hospital South Brisbane campus and we are looking for someone to commence in early 2025.
This position is ideal for a post-graduate with a degree in engineering or computer science, with prior experience in working with different types of numerical data including biological signals and images related to medical investigations, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalography (EEG).

Ability to code and program in scientific programming languages e.g. Python, MATLAB is also required.

Salary range: $46.30 - $60.43 per hour plus 11.5% superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

The Biomedical Engineer Research Assistant will work under supervision on clinical research projects related to signal processing of epilepsy data, including EEG and stereo-EEG, using machine learning approaches.

About you

To be considered for this role, the successful applicant must have:

Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computing, Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence or Applied Science; Masters or PhD in a relevant subject area is desirable

Ability to code and program in scientific programming languages e.g. Python, MATLAB

Familiarity with software and packages used for signal processing (e.g. MNE Python, Brainstorm) and presentation of data analysis results (e.g., Power BI and Tableau)
High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with various internal stakeholders and provide specialised advice on signal processing, communicating results with the clinical team
