Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation & Cooking
Prepare and cook dishes according to Mandarin Bistro’s Asian fusion menu.
Maintain consistency in food presentation and portion sizes.
Develop new seasonal menu items based on ingredient availability and customer preferences.
Ensure all food is cooked and served at optimal quality.- Kitchen Management & Organization
Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency in food production.
Monitor ingredient stock levels and place orders with suppliers.
Minimize food wastage and maintain cost-effective kitchen operations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including storage areas.- Compliance & Safety
Ensure all food preparation meets Australian food safety and hygiene standards.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with WorkSafe regulations.
Monitor and enforce proper food handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
Conduct routine maintenance checks on kitchen equipment and arrange repairs as needed.- Leadership & Staff Training
Supervise and support kitchen staff, including cooks, kitchen hands, and apprentices.
Train staff on food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen hygiene.
Assign kitchen duties and oversee staff performance to ensure efficiency.
Foster a positive and productive team environment.- Menu Development & Cost Control
Assist in designing and updating the restaurant’s seasonal menu.
Experiment with new dishes while maintaining the authenticity of Asian fusion cuisine.
Control food costs by managing ingredient portions and minimizing waste.
Work with management to price dishes competitively while maintaining profitability.- Customer Service & Collaboration
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service flow.
Respond to special dietary requests and customer feedback regarding food quality.
Occasionally interact with customers for special events, promotions, or chef’s recommendations.
Key Requirements & Qualifications:
Proven experience at least 2 years as a chef, preferably in Asian fusion or modern Australian cuisine.
Formal culinary training (Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent preferred).
Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene standards.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high food quality.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Ability to develop and execute creative menu items.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
