Founded in 1894, Ghella operate in the construction of large public projects and specialise in underground excavation and tunnelling works. Over the course of 150 years, we have built over 130 tunnels and connected more than 1,000 km’s of highways, railways and subways.

Operating in Australia since 2010, we are working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country and have established a recognised presence in the local infrastructure market. Our first project in Australia, Legacy Way, was named ‘Best Tunnelling Project in the World’ in 2013 and since then we have continued to take on some of the countries’ most crucial and challenging projects.

We are currently delivering in partnership with leading construction companies, projects that make a difference to the community with some of our current projects including Cross River Rail in Brisbane, Sydney’s M6 Stage 1, Sydney Metro West - Western Sydney Airport and Eastern Tunnelling package.

The Opportunity

As an Environmental Advisor you will support the delivery of the construction and handover over phase of a major infrastructure project.

You will be responsible for providing environmental advice and guidance to our project teams, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and supporting our company's commitment to sustainability.

Some of the role’s key accountabilities include;
  • Ensure the project’s Environmental Management System is continually improved toward a best-practice objective and kept up to date in response to legislative and circumstantial changes
  • Engage with Environmental improvements and reviews
  • Perform all duties in accordance with JCG policies, processes, systems and procedures
  • Supervise the project contaminated land consultant and deliverables to ensure the project teams are aware of actual and potential contamination risks and are armed with management strategies for known and unknown contamination
  • Develop policies, procedures, work instructions, protocols, and templates in accordance with Environmental requirements and influence the adoption of such systems throughout the business
  • Prepare and deliver regular reporting of Environment related information to the organisation and convene the WHS Committee Meetings
  • Manage external service provider relationships and procurement to deliver Environmental policies, procedures, products and services, such as emergency management and WHS training
  • Assist the JCG Environment and Sustainability Manager to implement, maintain and review the CEMP and associated documents;
  • Assist with the management of the risk management register, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
  • Assist in record keeping as required to demonstrate compliance
  • Assist in the development and/or delivery of environmental training and awareness, e.g. project inductions, toolbox talks, pre-start, etc
  • Reporting on environmental progress and performance of the project through to the EM
  • Provide support and advice to the design and construction teams to ensure positive environmental outcomes are achieved
  • Maintain the Health, Safety and Environment Management System, ensuring that it’s continually improved and kept up-to-date in relation to legislative frameworks JCG operations
  • Support the Environmental Manager, as required

About You

The successful candidate will have;
  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or suitably applicable fields
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in the construction sector
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for the Environment and Sustainability and driving innovation

The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
