Overview:
Established as a community-based early learning service, Seaton Community Children’s Centre is committed to providing high-quality education, care, and wellbeing for children aged 0–6 years. The Centre operates in accordance with the National Quality Framework and Standards, and the Early Years Learning Framework, with a strong focus on children’s health, safety, and nutrition.
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Chef to join our team. The Chef is required to be physically present at the service to prepare meals, manage food safety, and support daily operations. This position is full-time and ongoing, based on-site at Seaton Community Children’s Centre, Seaton, SA 5023.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious, balanced meals for children aged 0–6 years in accordance with the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
- Develop and regularly review menus that meet children’s nutritional requirements, cultural and religious considerations, allergies, intolerances, and medical needs.
- Manage food purchasing, stock control, and budgeting in line with the Centre’s approved financial parameters.
- Ensure strict compliance with food safety standards, safe food handling practices, hygiene procedures, and cross-contamination controls.
- Prepare alternative meals for children with identified dietary requirements or allergies.
- Maintain accurate food safety records, temperature logs, cleaning schedules, and compliance checklists.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, mixers, steamers, grills, and food preparation appliances.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment in compliance with WHS legislation and service policies.
- Collaborate with the Nominated Supervisor, educators, families, and health professionals regarding children’s nutrition and wellbeing.
- Contribute to the service’s Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) in relation to food safety, nutrition, and sustainability practices.
- Support children’s learning through age-appropriate involvement in cooking and food-related experiences where appropriate.
- Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with children, families, educators, and management.
Work Experience:
- A relevant Diploma qualification in the industry, or equivalent experience, and
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a Chef within an Early Childhood Service.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, nutrition guidelines, and early childhood dietary requirements.
- Ability to plan menus, manage budgets, and adjust recipes for varying volumes.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills and commitment to child safety, wellbeing, and inclusion.

Annual salary will be between $65,000.00 to $70,000.00 (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
